| Big Grin... | Number plate mounting (rear) I am planning to stick on some new number plates (not screw them on - to get rid of the screw heads). The front is easy as there are just screw holes in the bumper. The back plate is secured by screws that go into some black mounting clips. Has anybody tried to remove these so the number plate will stick flat againt the paintwork? If so how? - just want to know if anybody has done this before I go scratching the paintwork around them! Thanks, ![]() |

| MINI2 Regular | I fitted my rear plate into a colour coded numberplate holder and then fixed the holder to the rear of the car with double sided foam tape. The holder cleared the original mounting points and fits tight and flush to the bodywork. I tried the double sided foam directly onto the numberplate and then onto the bodywork, but the plate stood proud of the bodywork by a couple of mm. (the thickness of the double sided foam.) | MINI2 Regular | If you are talking about removing the plate from the holder? The numberplate just flexes enough to unclip from the holder. There is rubber/foam around the edge of the holder so the plate does not rattle. Being able to swop plates in and out is great. I can put on display plates for shows etc. and proper legal plates for driving on the highway. Black Jack |

| Big Grin... | On my Astra you could just pull the clips out by using a screwdriver and prising them out (they were just like a rawlplug). I'm sure the Mini ones will be similiar it's just a case how similar! They do stick quite proud so I would of thought you would need some really thick pads (or two together but it would be better to get it flusher to the bodywork. ![]() |

| Damned | Forget Sticky Pads, they`re for Gheko`s. Get some Nice CHROME added by way of Chrome Plate surrounds for around £20 a pair. They attatch via Hidden screws onto the original holes, & are covered by your Plate. I left the plastic studs in my plates to cover the original holes, (I was too stingy to go & buy a new set of plates ), & I sort of need the Middle stud for Effect. ![]() In da Wud |

Offline | I used the thicker pads from Halfords for the new front plates - gives a neat finish. I didn't risk prising off the rear fixing plugs from the outside, preferred to remove the interior hatch panel to get access to the back of the plugs and covered the holes with tank tape to stop any posible rain water - used the thinner Halfords pads. Spent a long time making sure that the plate was level using masking tape as guide - its a one off with the pads - if you get wrong its start over again with new pads. |
