I'm seriously thinking about buying the MontBlanc bars. I'll never use a boot mounted rack again after my disaster with one.

The MontBlanc is available in the UK. You'll still need a rack to attach to it. The MontBlanc Barracuda looks good.

wozza - my blokie had one fitted to his cooper for his bike - it's a BRUTAL job (involved drilling into mikey minis roof - ouch!!!). I'm not sure of details, like what make it is etc, but you can PM him and ask - his user name's moonshine.
Hope that helps you out....

are you deliberatly cheeky?

the question,..why,..refers to why ANYONE at BMW would have designed a roof rack, for their own cars that has to be drilled into the roof. beggars belief.

if that car is sold, it then has to be sold with the roof rack (what if you dont want a rack?), or the roof has to be repaired.

doing alot of biking myself, i know perfectly well why someone would WANT a roof rack.

I'm normally a cheeky monkey...
I see where you're coming from on BMW designing the rack so roof needs to be drilled - a bit stupid.
It's a pretty permanent feature, but then it depends on how you see your car....we bought ours to use and if that means we need a roof rack, then so be it....some people may think it'll be harder to re-sell, but then there may be people who would LIKE a rack - I suppose it all comes down to personal preference. (the rack comes off and we got little white covers to put over the holes, so it actually looks fine).

I'm off to BMW to see about having one drilled in on Saturday morning. I really don't want to have to go down that route because surely it has to spoil the lines of my "S" so the ones above look good.

There is a huge thread on roof racks, with feedback on the Mont Blanc starting on this page:
