Offline | Reliability Survey ....by UK Consumers Association revealed the MINI came approx. 70th out of about 90 models. Still - one in four Audi TTs break down within twelve months. Any comments? "I get by with a little help from my friends" |

| MINI2 Master | Based upon what we see here and elsewhere, this isn't surprising. The MINI is a fun car but it isn't a Toyota, reliability-wise. Hopefully this has improved with the 2003 models but this survey is too old to take more recent cars into account. Offline | I hate to say it but when it comes to total reliability my MCS has been back to the dealers for warranty work more times than any other new car I or my partners have had ( BMWs, VWs, Toyota, Peugeot and Ford). But it has never broke down and a lot of it seems to be more about quality control than reliabilty. I'm sure the bods ay Cowley will get it right for when I order my next one. ![]() PETER Evolve or die |

Offline | My guess is that the UK Consumers Association only heard from people who had trouble with their Mini. Those of us who have had nothing go wrong and no problems seldom get asked (although I did get a survey from JD Powers). And we don't have anything to grouse about, so no one hears us. I've not had ANY problems what-so-ever. |

Offline | I imagine it was the number of complaints lodged to the Consumer Association? In which case the results seem fair to me. Interesting to see how all the main German manufacturers fell from 'Good' to 'Average' for Reliability. Not surprisingly the Japanese were top. |

Offline | Did you mean ...it isn't a BMW? just curious... do you think BMW released the car too early? Could they have figured these quirks out without people actually driving them in real conditions? I wonder... I think that's one of the chances you take when you purchase a new "new" car. I bought mine without concern for these problems... it was worth the risk. I don't regret it for a second! Hers: '02 LY/white, CVT ... ... | MINI2 Regular | Not Ready for Primetime? It's possible that BMW had some problems getting the MINI ready at its Oxford plant since it wasn't originally going to produce the car there. In fact the intital design team was essentially replaced more than 2/3 of the way through the development process. The sale/exchange between BMW and Rover ended up with BMW moving production from the Longbridge plant to Oxford. It meant dismantling the original plant and rebuilding it at the second sight. This kind of operation, no matter how smoothly planned, has got to have some effect on final quality control. New car + new design team + new factory = problems. I too have faith in BMW's engineering and quality and expect a lot of these issues to get worked out with the '04 model run. I hope so anyway, because that's what I'm ordering. |
