MINI Japan, more honest than most? (Recalls)

Look what they openly show on the Japanese MINI site, be nice if this transparancy was available worldwide.

There's supposedly a tradition in Japan that favours heartfelt apologies and quick, complete remedies over secrecy, wrangling and litigation. I think this is an expression of that attitude.

In some ways it sure beats our system.

Okay, maybe this is a dumb question, as I am fairly new to mini2. What is the recall for?
Should I be worried about my S that's about to be built?

Thanks in advance!

It could be one of a number of recalls, I assume their site lists them all. If your S is about to be built, all 'recall' modifications will be in place on the line already.

That is interesting.
If MINI UK admitted to problems when you asked them directly about a particular fault, that would be a start. You have to really push hard to get anyone at Mini UK to admit they have heard of a problem before, never mind them knowing how to fix it.

My May 2003 build had a recall service done on it when I took it in to have them work on a rattle. The recall involved adding a diode to the electrical system somewhere where they'd been having fits. If I understand right, diodes, in addition to lighting up with minimal drain, also have the feature that they only allow current to flow in one direction.

Didn't sounded like a serious issue to me; more of a fix that they'll roll in as they see the cars in casual appointments. Every car that I've owned in the last 20 years has had recalls. The serious recalls are all accompanied by letters warning you of such; the legal hounds in today's society wouldn't let it be anything less.

Japanese car companies in Japan have also become much more "open" since 2000-2001 when there was a very big scandal involving Mitsubishi. They were found to have "modified records" involving customer compalints. ALL the Japanese car companies then came under suspicion and started to bend over backwards to show how open and forthcoming they were.

Not much litigation thats for sure and beats what we got
