Offline | Which Gear@What Speed For Best Acceleration There has been some discussion in the past about this but for all the MINIs, At what speed should you change up to the next gear to obtain the best acceleration figures and does it vary much between models? morrisminiminor |

Offline | MPH as nothing to do with strong acceleration. RPM, is what matters. At what rpm you shift to the next gear depends on the gear ratio difference from one gear to the next. You want the revs high enough that when you catch the next gear, the motor doesn't have to struggle to get back up into the power band. Typically, you rev the motor past the peak hp rpm range so it's already to pull hard in the next gear. |

| Hangin at the Krusty Krab | AFAIK, and this is from my m/cycle knowledge (high power low torque engines, like the Mini), is that performance engines / gearbox combos are designed such that if you shift when the engine reaches peak power (6k in MC), you're engine will drop to the peak torque RPM thus giving max thrust in the next gear. Therefore, if you want max performance, you should shift at whatever your peak power RPM is..... |

Offline | If you look at the power curves for the MC, it would appear that optimum shift points for max power and accel would be take 1st to redline (6750) take 2nd to redline (6750 take 3rd to 6600 take 4th to 6500. I don't know what the redline is on the One or the MCS, but their power curves don't fall off that much after peak power, and I suspect the strategy would be about the same for them. Offline | Watch how your car drops RPM from 1st to 2nd and so on-my MCS drops around 1000 1st to 2nd, so I rev to about 5500, shift, RPM's drop to 4500-max torque, most acceleration. Also gives the tires a nice chirp! |

Offline | Chirp i mean[/quote] Turn the A/C and DSC off. The DSC will kill your acceleration as soon as the tires break loose and you just can't believe how much power the A/C sucks until you've used it straight for a week or two and then shut it off. ![]() |
