Offline | Streaking in a MINI... Has anyone seen this on their MINI??? Mine is 3 months old and I have noticed two streaks of oil that seems to start somewhere near the rear boot catch ( I cant tell if it's coming from the catch as the first sign of it is coming out of the rubber seal ) It then streaks back over the rear bumper and each one is about 1/4" wide. Looks like an oily Viper stripe right in the middle of the bumper. Saw another MCS that had a streak coming from that area - looks like about 1/2 an eggcup full in quantity. Maybe I don't wash my MINI enough so I am one of the few who see it ( it has been building up these last three weeks ). Any help appreciated. |

Offline | Sounds like the rear hatch struts which hold the hatch up while it is open. The strut is oil filled and if one is leaking it would run down with the back and run out down the lowest part of the boot area ie middle of the hatch try removing one of them and see if it stops it. |

Offline | Just to be sad and on topic, I read somewhere else this is caused by the cavity wax melting in the hatch and leaking out. Nothing cna be done about this apart from cleaning it!! (although it will stop eventually when all the wax has run out) |

Offline | Could be the struts that would make sense - but maybe the cavity wax ties up with the hot weather we have been having - I only noticed it when the temp started climbing. |

Offline | Me too. Bit concerned now. I just thought it was road muck and the quality venturi throwing crap up from the exhaust that had mixed with some run off from washing the screen and then run down the bumper in those two nice vipers.... |

Offline | I think it's just overuse of cavity wax. You don't need much to prevent rust, but it is cheap and the easiest way to make sure you get it everywhere is to spray loads in. I think the only solution is to keep cleaning it. Cavity wax is adhesive so once all the excess has leaked out it won't happen again. On my old Spitfire (just for you Nick ) I used to wax it once a year, the first hot spell we had and it would leave super slippy puddles everwhere. Didn't ever go rusty though. |

Offline | No solutions, but yes, I also had these two streaks on my Mini - already noticable when I collected it last month. I just thought that they hadn't polished it very well ![]() David 2003 Mini Cooper S - DS/B |

Offline | I had exactly the same problem although only noticed it during all this hot weather we have ben having. My question is how to you clean it off? I have tried to wash it twice but is still there. What can I use to remove the steaks without ruining the paint work aswell?? Donna. Donna |

Offline | Mine went with a sponge... Not very helpful I'm afraid. Its a bit sad, but I do have a sponge recommendation though. Halfords sell a sponge in a kind of string vest affair and this cleans bugs, tar and all manner of crap off the car. Somebody will tell me that its damaging the paintwork or stripping wax or something, but it seems great to me! |

Offline | I had initially passed on this thread as there was no picture attached and I figured who cares about someone talking about nudity in the Mini, I want pictures. I was desperate for new reading today so I checked it out and what do you know, not even talking about nudity, let alone a pic. I don't actually have mine yet so I can't actually make an intellligent response, so this will have to suffice.2004 MCS DS/B |
