TLC flaw?

My MINi One is a low mileage car, only used once or twice a week for fairly long runs. After its first year, it will have done no more than around 5 - 6000 miles - but I like a car to be serviced (oil change etc.) after one calender year or when the mileage reaches its designated limit (whichever is sooner).

I have TLC but if the MINI doesn't tell me it needs a service in 12months, will I have to pay for the oil change myself? Surely TLC should cover services that are time related as opposed to distance related. Otherwise TLC with low mileage MINIs is not value for money!

Any thoughts?

I would agree that for average mileage users the TLC package is great. But at the point of sale, it is not (or wasn't for me) pointed out that for low mileage users a careful read of the small print of TLC may be required.

If MINI tell you the oil doesn't need replaced after a year then why replace it? The oil in a MINI is top quality fully synthetic so probably does not deteriorate over time like in the old days. My first car a Fiesta was supposed to be serviced every 6kmiles or 6 months.

At least your TLC should last 5 years unlike mine!

I was made aware from the start it was a mileage based package, maybe that needs to be highlighted better for everyone, so those (like you) who do not cover so many miles are aware of the limitations.

even so £100 for servicing even up to your (low) 30,000 mile average is good value
