| MINI2 Regular | Did you just ask this to get a rise out of folks or did you really think that everyone would want only a MCS? I have a MC on order and chose it for a few reasons. First of all, I need good gas mileage. In So. CA I drive a lot and I'm not worried about going fast. If I can get on the freeway on-ramps quickly and pass folks when I'm not in traffic I'm happy. I also bought the car for it's character. I'm sick of seeing Hondas and Toyotas all day (I currently have a Toyota :-)). I also have friends that needed an automatic transmission either due to medical reasons or preference. So the MC fits the bill for all of these things. The MSC is a fine car too. Isn't it cool that we can celebrate our differences and still all get MINIs? ![]() |

Offline | My main deciding factor was the CVT..I don't like driving manual..thats just me. I love the look of the MCS but I bought a MC and added many options, with more to come, and I love my car I wil likely add the plugs to give it a bit more power, but I hold my own with all vehicles on the road, but then I'm a very good fast driver!lolMINI is a way of life! |

Offline | I live in CA too. MC and MCS I guess are both good. I like the look of the S, more sportier, thats just my opinion. Gas mielage is not so much different between the two, and here in the US, insurance based on car is not an issue. I also like how MCS is manual. Takes more skill and has more gut when you drive. |

Offline | A couple of reasons... 1) Money! Not so much the price of the car itself... my loaded cooper costs only 1800 € less then an S, but registration tax in Belgium is 2400€ for an S and zilch, nada, rien for a cooper. Insurance is a hefty 1000€ per year more. So that adds up. 2) The colours available... I know I've got one of the last VRs and I'm very happy with that. It's not a colour you can get with an S 3) There are enough speeding camera's as it is. And to much traffic, The only place you can utilise that extra oomph is on the highway... and I don't drive on it for my day to day traffic. 4) I would kill myself in an S, both in a speedingticket sense as litteraly! Currently driving my Mini Cooper and having alot of fun! +10000 miles and counting. MC VR/W, man Airco, SS+, alarm, profile leather, sportseats, spoiler, radio boost, chrome pack, white racestripes, 16" 5 spoke rims, |

Offline | A Cooper is definatley not slow. If your a useless driver then perhaps yes, Comming home from Kingaroy today I was accelerating from 100 and passing them doing 145-150. It's just a matter of droping it down a gear and flooring it. But isn't that why you buy a manual car, for a bit of fun? Also my cousin kept up with all the Cooper S's on a recent run through a twisty fast paced section the other day, just by driving it smoothly and quickly. I was thinking about getting a S but the ride is just to rough for me. But don't forget we have speed limits |

| UberGeek | Being forced to drive auto (disability) means the decision to take the MC over the MCS was simple - there is no MCS with auto (and I'm not trying to start another thread about why the MCS should/shouln't come auto). The MC is reasonably quick; not as fast as the MCS, but thats to be expected. I've got my Supra for real 'fast' big BHP fun. Lee aka PunkeyFunky |

Offline | eh,....what takes more skill? changing gear????? hmmm,....yeah its a difficult thing to master, ive got to say ive read this whole thread, and its totally, totally shocking. guys, GET OVER YOURSELVES. As Markw19 said,...they are ALL MINIs. love them, or leave them alone...dont ***** between them, for gods sake. why do these threads start?? why??? it provoked a response, thats all,..but it was utterly, utterly unresearched, and a complete waste of time. In the UK, there are many reasons for not wanting an S, all of which have been discussed. it would appear that many of thise reasons are also shared with our american counter parts,..so why such a ridiculous question was raised ill never know. your new here, and youll learn. we try to get on with one another, not openly pick fights. its not big and its not clever. lets ALL love each others cars, and respect WHY we chose them. please?? ![]() Tony 'SONIC' - '53 Mini Cooper, Pepper White - Just arrived |

Offline | The bulk of the time you can't really utilize the full potential of the S in ereryday driving. My CVT is plenty peppy enough for me and I don,t have to clutch constantly in stop and go traffic. |

Offline | I chose the Cooper over the 'S' for several reasons: 1. The 'S' wasn't available when I ordered my Cooper. ![]() 2. I couldn't justify an 'S' on insurance costs. ![]() 3. The fuel consumption if the 'S' is extremely disappointing. ![]() 4. Not enough chrome on the 'S'. ![]() 5. The red interior is not an option on the 'S' ![]() 6. After all that I still prefer the looks of the Cooper to the 'S'. ![]() ![]() |

Offline | There is also the ONE and D as mentioned by the others ![]() If you pay attention closely to some of the replies in this thread, you should noticed that quite a few of them where posted by non-Brits who are in favour of Cooper over MCS. We Europeans are lucky I guess as we get the full range of MINIs available to us. You do not have to agree with the views expressed in here, likewise others do not have to agree with yours ![]() Each to their own - you know that saying? DK :apple: |

Offline | i just got my MCS and absolutely love it! but after thinking about it further, i wonder why i didn't go for an MC, and part of me thinks i would've been better off with an MC. i test drove a CVT MC and an MCS back-to-back, and was surprised at how much more responsive the MCS was. but in retrospect, i prolly should've tested a manual MC as well. either way, they're all great cars and i'm damn happy to have such a great car. but in the end, you really gotta love the hood scoop and dual exhaust ![]() |

Offline | Hey Grauwerks, it's true. The 5 speed MC is very different from the CVT MC. I'm certain you would have found the MCS and MC very similar during your test drive, not until you got into the upper speed ranges. But you got one sweet car, so as long as you're happy, that's the best reason! Richard |

Offline | That is so true. If I had the same specs as my MC, an MCS would be approaching $30,000 US and that's not even with a JCW kit (final price had to include California Sales Tax which is close to 10%)! |

Offline | Right on brother They don't do the Mini one over here, but if they did I'm sure you'd see a lot of those too. Who cares which model you've got, if it's a Mini it's cool!! ![]() A car, A legend, A way of life |
