Offline | Pepper White Value Just got back from the dealer. Took down my spec with me and talked it over with him, bla bla bla... Anyway, he said that he doesnt recommend i get the Pepper White colour because when i come to sell it it wont be worth as much if, for example, i selected Chili Red or Racing Green etc. He said it could be worth anywhere between £500-£1000 less than the more 'popular' colour!! Is this true? I had my heart set on the PW/B combo but his words of 'advice' have dampened my spirit!!? I was quite 'ard though. I pointed out the fact that maybe if they (BMW) didnt try and disuade people to but PW then maybe more people would!? Are they genuine in the words of wisdom or are they thinking more for themselves on this one (i dont know in which way). One other thing (sorry to go on!!)...the dealer also said that i would have to put down a £2000 deposit on it rather than the usual £500 due to the spec i had chosen. Is this normal? Thanks! |

Offline | You have to make yourself happy first and foremost. You will be driving the car for a long time and if you don't like the color, you will never stop regretting letting someone else influence that decision. I wouldn't worry about the resale value of a car you haven't bought yet. As time passes, the resale value won't matter as much to you. You will love your Cooper! p.s. I have heard of dealers making people put larger deposits down on "less popular" specs, but if the color is so bad, why would they offer it? |

Offline | I was told the same when I ordered in December last year, they even went on to say that them wouldn't be keen on accepting one as a PX in the future. It put me right off, I still can't see the problem myself they look great. |

Offline | Pepper White is a gorgeous color! Since it is so much easier to take care of, It would likely look better at resale time then Red. One of the metallics cost more to begin with, and the value books used by dealers do not put extra value on a car because of it's color. Get what ever color makes you happy. I definitely do not agree with your advisor. Ann Ms Mini |

Offline | Hi BigTed Your dealer obviously does not want your custom. Notice you are in Kent. There are plenty of other dealers, try another. 2 grand deposit. They are having a laugh. How does the dealer know at this stage how the colour is going to effect second hand prices in the future, Pepper White hasn't been out very long, and I know it's a colour which is growing on people, especially with the black combo. At the end of the day its your choice and your money, stand firm on what you want. Plenty of Pepper White Mini's are being sold I understand. ![]() ![]() |

Offline | Are you buying it to enjoy it or as an investment? If you say investment you're in the wrong market anyway. Get what makes you happy, who knows what will be popular in two, three or five years from now. For anyone to say that today's 'cool' colors will still be tomorrow's 'cool' colors seems to have forgotten the rise and fall of teal. |

Offline | I have admired the white Minis since the colour was introduced. So what do I know ! I did go down to the John Cooper showroom in Worthing and guess what, they had a pepper white demo, Red interior, red door panels etc. It looked really "retro" and cool. They should know what is hot and what is not. Incidentally there was a similar debate about yellow minis a while ago.... I'd go for white if I were you. I would ring around to another dealer. One more thing is I love it but there are quite a lot of reds, blues, blacks around now. adios CHILLI RED, CHILLI PACK, MAGNEX & PIPERCROSS BAGS OF FUN gone now but not forgotten, an s next time ? |

Offline | color does have a very slight affect on re-sale, but this is how i look at things. Cost/How long i expect to own = Is it worth it $500 / 5yr = 100yr = worth it get the white. $100 bucks a year for exactly what you desire is a bargain. |

Offline | Forget that - have the white - it looks great, if you'd buy it so would many others. I wouldn't compromise on colour even if it was worth a bit less in the future. Cometh the Hour, Cometh the MINI |

Offline | Thanks all for your interesting replies, some genuinely useful points there. Firstly...I am certainly buying it to enjoy it, thats a sure thing!! Like m'cars!! Want a Mini!!! It seems this particular dealership (Lind in Aylesford) are intent on getting me to buy another colour. The guy even went as far as to say that light grey was very close to the Pepper White and that maybe i should consider that instead. I ignored him. ![]() Pepper White is my favourite colour by far (although all you other peeps' minis look fantastic too!) so i went down there with my heart set on it. I dont think i'm gonna let one person/dealer change my mind here. No siree. I've been to many dealers in the past and not once have they 'disagreed' with my choice of colour/specs. Came across as very odd to me indeed. Very odd. And i didnt realise they're about to bring out a PW Cooper S! The plot thickens! That will look swish. I will certainly have a looksee at other dealerships cos a £2000 deposit is unreal. I think that may have been used to put me off the colour too. I just don't get it. *deep thinking* Dam it...i'm sticking to what i want here!!! Come to me little Mini!! Come come. Thanks for all your posts. ![]() and snuffy - see http://www.mini2.com/forum/mini-cooper/39489-questions-questions.html for my specs (although they have changed a little thanks to the advice of the people here) |

Offline | Erm, it may have something to do with the fact in that in the original movie, the Mini's where Red, White and Blue, to signify the colours of the Union Jack. I.e. the british pulling one over on the italians. ![]() |
