Talking Cooper seats could be worse !!.

After moaning and *****ing about the Cra*p drivers seat in my Coop.

( No doubt this thread will be moved soon ! )

I lost the plot the other day and , ' Slammed' the seat backwards and forwards , trying to get a position that I could cope with !.

Iv'e had enough of this , I shouted !, at which my wife shouted back , well do something about it !!.

So the MIN went back to the dealers ' AGAIN ' .

Complaint : The seat's CR*P . and getting worse by the day !.

Ok , say's the BMW service guy , I will order a new seat base .

Funny that he should say that as I did not request it ? .

Anyway , they provided me with a new 318 as a courtesy car.

What a load of RUBBISH that was !!.

The Drivers seat was worse than my MINI !!.
The steering was very heavy.
There was an armrest that covered the handbrake , and even when the armrest was lifted out of the way you must have to be some sort of freak to operate it.

This was a 318I , the cheapest BM available , nearly a 2 Litre.
But slower than any 1600 I have ever driven !.

I returned to the dealer , happy to get rid of this BMW CR*P , and pick up my MIN.

Guess what ?, they could not find anything wrong with my seat !!!!!!!.

They've had the seat out .

They've had it to bit's.

Well I'v had it to bit's !!.

After 30 + years of driving English , American , French , built / designed cars , I have never experienced anything as bad as BMW rubbish.

My COOPER will be for sale soon and although I will miss it's beautifull shape and handling , I will not miss the MOST UNCOMFORTABLE CAR I HAVE EVER DRIVEN !!.

BYE BYE !.

see ya but before ya go can you explain exactly what your problem with the seat is? I'm not sure what you don't like about it. Is it rattling? Adjustments not working? Your butt don't fit in it? I'm so

You do know you could buy new aftermarket seats for a few hundred each right?

Magic 8-ball was correct. All be in awe of Magic 8 ball.

I find the seats very confortable (well, the sports seats, I kind of have to grip too hard with my buttocks in the non sports variety!).

I'd go for the aftermarket seat conversion, with 4 point Sabelt harness, thats really cosy, and you do'nt have to grip with your 'butt'

As Paul said sports seats are very comfy, at first I thought they were gonna kill me as it felt like I needed a hip replacement after 20 minutes of driving but after a few adjustments I can now sit comfortably in them for 4+ hours straight. Aftermarket may be nice but to me they just look mismatched with the interior

Sports seats are very comfortable IMO.
The first couple of days left me feeling a bit stiff round about the lower back, but once I got used to the position its been fine ever since.

sounds like the MINI really wasn't for you, if you're willing to give it up because of uncomfortable seats - i'm sorry but i find it hard to believe they can be THAT bad, i have no problem with mine, on the contrary i find them quite comfortable. granted, they're not lazyboys(tm) but then i wouldn't want to drive around in a recliner. what exactly was your gripe with the seats? giving the car up you'll lose some money, did you consider putting them towards aftermarket seats?

anyhow, bye bye lumspeed, and good luck with your next car! do let us know how you get along.

after 30 years of driving? lumspeed must be at least 45.. perhaps he has a very special butt or something... may be he needs to visit a proctologist instead of the service centre and sort out his delicate bum problem

I know the feeling. The seats aren't what I'd call 'sports', simply because 'sports' does not mean rock solid and offering poor support.

I expect 'sports' seats to be figure hugging, keep me sitting up straight (even with the MINI's offset driving position) and be good for hours of sprited driving.

Anyways, I'm not going to let one issue spoil an otherwise brilliant motor. Hence the Sparco's I've got on order.

Actually getting aftermarket seats ordered, with frames and fitting them is a differenyt story, that I'll save for another thread...

I think I need to get the lumbar support taken out of mine, because it just sticks right in my back. The seat is fairly comfortable apart from this thing sticking in my goddamn back!! I sat in a TT with a proper bucket seat (Recaro) and mon dieu! how comfortable is that! It's not particularly soft but it fits my back perfectly, I could LIVE in that seat! Still each to their own, I wouldn't be getting rid of my MINI just because the seat is a little uncomfortable. Just give me a new back every six months or so and I'll be all right....

Well I've driven a 318 Auto (the 1.9 8v version as opposed to the latest 2.0 16v version ) for 2+ years and have been driving my Cooper for 16 months and love both seats. The Mini's are better but the BMW's were great also.

Are you an unusual shape? Whats the actual problem with the seat? Or can you just not get comfortable in it?

If its a case of just not getting comfortable. Why not buy an aftermarket seat that you can keep everytime you change your car.

i find my std mini sports seats very comfy, even with my SS suspension & 16" runflats...

i've got to agree with lumspeed on the 318 though, i had a 3 series compact as a courtesey car (not sure of the engine size) & the seating postion was awful, the pedals were so offset everytime i went for the clutch my foot hit the dead pedal/footrest, plus the armrest not only got in the way of the handbrake but the gearchange as well.

I'd agree - I had a 2001 330 convertible for almost 2 years and the seats were standard and very comfortable (admittedly heated and fully electric). I am struggling with the MINI seats - a spirited drive around MK and it's roundabouts means I spend most of the time at 45degrees trying to stay out of the passenger seat!

The seats could/should be much more supportive, but I put it down to the performance and roadholding of the car far exceeding the spec for the seats. When my back can't take anymore it's God's way of telling me to ease off!

For as much as he cried about the seats being soo bad, he couldn't have test driven a Mini before buying it. If he thinks the seats are soo bad, he should try a stint in a Ford Escort or Mazda Protege. For those of you that want the Mini to come with seats that will hold your skinny but in place through a 90 degree turn at 70, you're only thinking of yourself. Some of us weight more than a hundred fifty pounds. Seats provided in a mass produced vehicle have to fit a range of different drivers.

I was thinking that, but you can never tell these days. Hell he may be a classic owner who hates all things BMW
