Unhappy What a safe little car thank god!

Accident in Mini vrs Punto thankfully the mini won!

Me and my 20 month old daughter Elise travelling along minding our own business when we came across a sponsered bed push on the main road..... Car infront slows down so do we but car behind uses the poor mini as a stopper. Look athe damage to the Punto, went away on a low loader. We drove home.....

Must say all ok a part from whiplash and brusied back but the little mini is a strong car. Went to local dealer they were suprised how little damage.

Might get an S works upgrade out of the compo !!!!

Sorry to hear of the accident. Little damage visible but it still sucks. You may want to get checked out medically even if you don't think anything is wrong. Good luck on the repairs. A different subject would get you more reads on this thread I suspect. I passed it over many times thinking it was some garbage comparing the cars. There is no comparison.

The Fiat definitely got the worse if it. Hope you and your little one are okay. I agree on getting the medical check. Best of luck to you.

thanks for the messages.

dealer has checked the car out on the ramp and has stated that not even the heat sheilds or exhaust has been damaged. Just shows you how strong they are.. Dealer told me that behind the flimsy bumper is a significant amount of chassis structure, thats good to know

will be speaking to my Solicitor later today...

thanks

Good to see you and the little one are safe and sound - MINI's can be mended, people can't always be repaired as easily

it amazes me every time you see pictures like this just how tough this car is. i thought modern design thinking was that the car should crumple to absorb the energy of a bump. looks like mini have just made the car rock hard instead! good to hear you're both ok

Damn, that is a big hole in your rear. Try and get some money from those doing the sponsored bed push.

Sorry to read about your accident , but glad that you & your daughter weren't seriously injured .

I also thought that new cars were designed to crumple on impact - good to see that MINI's are tough as well as good looking

Good luck with the repairs etc. Keep us posted how you get on.

Glad your babe and yourself are fine. It looks like your rear quarter panels took no damage so just a new hatch and bumper skin should set you right.
I got rear ended about 2 months ago. It felt bad but the damage was hard to see. I was pleasantly surprised when I walked around back expecting much worse.
Best of luck

"rock hard" is bad. Yes it saves on body work after an accident, but the point of the car crumpling is to absorb the energy of the collison before it gets to you. If the car does not crumple at all, all the energy of the crash is transmitted directly to you. This is why old trucks built on ladder frames (two I-beams running their length) fare so badly in crash testing. The test dummy gets the crap beat out of it because all the energy of the collison is transmitted directly to it. It may be heartbreaking to see your car all crunched up, but it is far preffereable to the alternative.
