Offline | a hole... (one for the over thirties )BUT... there is a new thing I've just noticed on my new S, after four days of ownership ![]() Probably appears on Ones & Coops too... there is now a 'vent' in the parcel shelf!!! Why? I have no idea... except maybe to let more exhaust noise into the cabin, 'cos mine sounds absolutely gorgeous even brand new and under 4500 rpm (ok, maybe 5000 rpm, but it was an accident, I didn't mean too, it just happened...)One other thing... there is a tapping noise which sounds like its coming from under/in the intercooler?! Any ideas? |

Offline | the vents in the parcel shelf are more than likely for release of air inside of the cabin when the doors are shut. this allows doors to shut easier it will probably do the same for the boot as well. but *** the technical mumbo jumbo who cares about that. bring the noise! (something for the over thirty public enemy fan) ![]() THATS THE WAY I LIKE IT BABY I DONT WANNA LIVE FOREVER! |

Offline | The vent / grill in the rear parcel shelf (S only) is there to allow some of the exhaust noise into the cabin. This is because the noise from the exhaust is so restricted to meet regulations etc. Not sure about the tapping noise coming from the Intercooler area ?? ![]() |

Offline | Not so, it's a Cooper S only feature (and all MINI owners deserve to be able to close their boots with equal ease), and it has been confirmed to me (several times as it was questioned a lot early on), that it's purely there to improve the 'aural experience' of Cooper S ownership. Another early idea was to have a 'plug' between the cabin and engine bay in the footwell you could switch open and closed to get more engine whine/roar into the cabin if you felt like it. Never made it into production though. Our trials and tribulations living in a "bleeding edge" eco house... Oxley Woods Living |

| www.minicoopers.org | well i have one of the first cooper S's ( no hole in the bucket), but apparently the vent is for safety reasons as the battery is in the trunk... so in case of an explosion the pressure can evacuate through there. therefore i am changing to the hole in the bucket ( for free) |

Offline | Anyone driven for an extended period with the back seats folded down (I've got a mini load liner for using when I'm buying stuff at Wickes, so mine are down quite a bit!!). It makes the world of difference to the exhaust note - I much prefer it with the seats down ![]() |

Offline | Not true at all (it's amazing what dealers come up with, I assume that's from a dealer). The One D has a battety in the boot and no vent. ![]() Our trials and tribulations living in a "bleeding edge" eco house... Oxley Woods Living |
