Offline | OK got Cooper Chilli with aircon (dont use it very often as I prefer the window) SS+ and 17" S Spokes +other stuff that cosmetic Done 3000 miles in 4 weeks The car runs at 4000rpm in 5th doing 85mph...is this right? I had a ONE courtesy car and this had 5000miles on the clock and did 90mph! at only 3800rpm?!!!! What are peoples experiences of the revs at what speeds...I really dont feel the car is quite what it should be. The ONE I had felt as fast as my cooper and reved less to obtain speeds and accelerated better in midrange revs from 50mph to 70/80mph!!!!!!! ![]() I s there a difference in the gearing on the ONE and Cooper, if there is surely the Cooper would be geared higher to allow it to reach the top end of 126mph and the ONE the reverse to restrict the top end...thus the ONE should rev harder to obtain speeds, but the roles of my Cooper and the ONE courtesy I had seem to be reversed! By 2300 miles the oil had gone from max line (4miles) to the min line (2300miles) on the dip stick...is this normal consumption on most peoples Coopers? Fuel consumption started at around 30mpg and is now at around 35-38 mpg dependant of fuel type and journey type. Even a tank on virtually 100% Mway miles seems to only do 36mpg?!!..nothing like BMWs claimed 50 mpg extra urban or even the 42 combined!...I am wondering if this is because of the high revs mentioned before? I have looked on the site and there are threads that cover this but none really seem to answer my questions...the revs thing does worry me as I could understand it on a new engine as everything is tight and so fuel, and revs are usually up, but mine is fairly well worn in now so....it just feels wrong. My dealler is miles away so getting it in to have the ECU map looked at is a pain in the ass etc so people experiences of the revs, oil use and fuel for similar standard coopers would be appreciated Thanx in advance R |

Offline | The ONE has a lower final drive ratio than a Cooper so the ONE revs lower than a Cooper at any given road speed. My ONE is about 2900rpm at 70mph, think a Cooper is about 3200rpm. A Cooper should certainly be faster than a ONE. I don't think there will be "much" difference at lower revs, it's above 4000rpm where the Cooper really gets going apparantly. On the oil it may be OK as some cars use a bit oil whereas other don't. I've done 15k in my ONE and the level has never moved though so perhaps you should have it checked out. Your fuel consumption will impress some people as it is more than a lot of owners get. Is there a MINI dealer nearer you than the one you bought it from? You can use any dealer to cover warranty work. Red/Black R56 Cooper |

Offline | The Cooper and One have different gearing, check the technical section on the One and Cooper for details.... One: Manual transmission ratio's (gears 1 through 5, reverse) (:1): 3.417, 1.947, 1.333, 1.054, 0.846, 3.580 Final drive: 3.556:1 Cooper: Manual transmission ratio's (gears 1 through 5, reverse) (:1): 3.417, 1.947, 1.333, 1.054, 0.846, 3.580 Final drive: 3.940:1 We have owned both, and yes the Cooper is in higher revs for the same speeds, the One is more fuel effecient and not THAT MUCH slower, but slower it is, just more effortless in general. I got around 32 to 34 MPG from my Cooper in 'regular' usage (worked out by hand/spreadsheet), and that's with general daily driving, and at the time a 30ish mile round trip to work each day.
