Offline | Wing mirrors - what do you do with yours? Near our house - there are about 5 minis that I see parked on the street regularly and i have noticed that more often than not their wing mirrors are turned in. Is this a new thing that people are doing now? My mini is coming in a few weeks time - sadly not pepper white as i had hoped - my husband persuaded me that black was a more sensible choice - but should i be doing the fold back thing?? Would like to know if its being the norm to protect our precious minis from any unfortunate scratches? |

Online | Welcom to the wonderful jolly world of MINI2 caminicks! ![]() I don't do the fold in thing but i do park 2 feet from the kerb! Can get away with it tho cos my street's a quiet dead-end, wouldn't fancy trying it on a busy road! |

Offline | A lot of people have been doing it for a long time, if they care about their cars. I do it when parking on narrow roads. Hyper Blue/Blue MCSC with Chilli 'No man will make a great leader who wants to do it all himself' A. Carnegie |

Offline | I turn the drivers side in when I go thru the drive-thru... then I can pull up close to the order window so I don't have to stretch too far. Trust not the heart of a man for whom old clothes, and the Mini, are not venerable! |

Offline | I would advise turning them in if you live on a narrow road with lots of traffic, or on a ferry, or if you park facing the opening of a pedestrian access. People have very little respect for other people's properties these days ![]() DK :apple: |

Offline | I have parked all my cars outside my house on the road ever since i passed my test ( 9 years ) and never had my wing mirror clipped. The day I got my BRAND NEW MINI I got home from the dealer parked up in my normal place and hadn't even turned the engine off when my mirror got clipped Hows that for annoying and frustrating ??? Fortunatley when I got out and had a look it was fine and must have been the lightest clip ever as there wasn't even a mark. From inside though it sounded like armageddon. Morale of this story, I'm one unlucky ***.......... no thats not it, its tuck them mirrors in ![]() |

Offline | I'm undecided on the mirrors turned in theory. I do usually turn mine in when parked, but I wonder if when people driving along see the mirrors turned in, they think they can go that little bit closer to the parked cars, and could end up scratching the whole length of the cars panels? Personally, I'd rather have my mirror dinged than a scratch the length of the car. (I think the mirrors only stick out about an inch further than the widest point of the door?) Any thoughts? My favourite parking tactic is parking in front/behind some huge Merc M-class, BMW X5 or similar, so that the MINI is nicely tucked into the kerb, and drivers will adjust for the wider parked vehicles so hopefully the MINI is nice and protected. gm ![]() Very special 'chillied' red and white Cooper, 17" alloys, and a very proud owner ![]() Born on 3 January 2003. |

Offline | True, but the wing mirrors are wing mirror height, so if you're on a narrow street, cars either side with wing mirrors stuck out, and a car driving down the middle wing mirrors out, there's more chance of a scrape than if they're folded away. |

| M5 Extraordinare! | Hahaha me too... well for me it doenst have to be in front of a SUV or by a SUV just park a tad more in then the other person so he will be protecting me. Note: I never park my MINI in the streets maybe like twice so far. even with my other car i do this. ![]() |

Offline | Oooooh, good luck with the 17s! When I got my MINI the one thing I decided I HAD to have were the 17s! When you are parking, you need to lower the appropriate wing mirror so that you get a better view of the kerb and your back wheel - this should at least reduce the chance of kerbing your beautiful alloys! (After a bit of practice, a quick movement with the left hand should have the mirror perfectly in place ready for parking!) gm ![]() Very special 'chillied' red and white Cooper, 17" alloys, and a very proud owner ![]() Born on 3 January 2003. |

Offline | I accidentally clipped a white transit van with my wingmirror the other day, quite hard. Overtaking and he pulled out quickly to my lane, mustve been in his blindspot. And... I'm pleased to say that although it got quite a whack, the wingmirror folded in and upwards, which saved it from damage. Had a job leaning out of the passenger window though at the traffic lights to try and straighten it ! ![]() Just a little white mark from the van, but not scratched. Will hopefully rub out when I get the time :-) |

Offline | I've never turned mine in, but one time upon returning to my parked car, found one had been turned in. I assumed it had been vandalized, then concluded that some thoughtful soul had turned it to gain access to their vehicle. In general, I think the mirrors act like a cat's whiskers, as indicators of how wide the car is, and I'll leave them out to keep others from crowding that extra inch closer. |
