Offline | Ooh, it's great to have my 'S' back! Had the take my Cooper S into the dealers on Monday for some repair work to a damaged front bumper. I had a MINI One as a courtesy car (requested ISOFIX, so that's fine with me!), and I did quite enjoy it (we already have a MINI One of our own), but boy was I delighted to get back into the 'S' this morning. Took the long route home down some twisty country lanes. ![]() Our trials and tribulations living in a "bleeding edge" eco house... Oxley Woods Living |

Offline | What happened to the bumper Paul? I had a ONE as a courtousy car from my dealer on Monday as well, did not like it at all!! the only good thing about it that I found was the gearchange, it was a lot smoother in that than it is in my COOPER!! Glad to hear that you have got your S back though... One of these days I will hopefully be able to afford an S... ![]() |

Offline | I thought they had the same box. Thought only the final drive ratio was different. The Cooper I drove last week felt just like mine only not as good as I have a Whalen shifter on my ONE ![]() Red/Black R56 Cooper |

Offline | I always thought the cooper + ONE had the same gearbox, the cooperS has the same gearbox as the Focus RS(apparently) but BoBb3h says the g/box in ONE is different to cooper...? The ONE seems to lose grunt at about 4000rpms... needing a change of gear pretty early, where as the cooper would still be pulling for a while yet... ![]() |

Offline | With my One it only really starts to go anywhere above 4000 rpm. Leave that gearstick alone! As far as I know the One and Cooper have the same 'box with a different final drive which makes the Coop accelerate a bit quicker (in addition to the extra horses). ![]() |

Offline | Well the one gearbox is built by Midland gearbox which is what was left after MG Rover was sold and then BMW told Midland Gears that they would run that gearbox for three years then change so the One has that gearbox. Concerning the Cooper S and Cooper the gearbox is Getrag (Pronounced c-trag) but the cooper s is semi-auto http://www.mini2.com/gallery/personal/BoBb3h/sig1.jpg Mini One, Indi Blue, CD Player, SEXY! Offline | The MINI One and Cooper have the same manual 5 speed gearbox, only the final drive is different. They are the midland gears units, although next year all MINIs will swap to Getrag. The Cooper S and MINI One D have the same manual 6 speed Getrag box, only with different ratios, also the gear change mechanism is different on the D to the S. The S and D are only available in manual. The Cooper and One both also have a CVT option, made by the German company ZF. Hope this clears things up. Offline | Glad to hear Wollaston got you S back nice and quickly Paul! Wife has been using the works for commuting the last few days and I had begun to think "it can't be as much fun as I remember driving it - must have been because it's new". Went out last night for a 15 minute blast down the H's and V's and was reminded just how good the car is - even changing at 4500. More exciting is that today it'll go over the magic 1250 so I can begin to go a little higher on the revs. The only thing which rained on my parage last night was a Ferarri F355 behind me as we came up to the dual carriageway section. I could not believe it! - There's always someone with better toys! (for a split second I regretted not getting a Scooby but that passed - shame on me!). Decided to leave competion with it until it's a "which is easier to park" stage! ![]() ![]() |

Offline | And different ECU settings isn't it ? Having driven all MINI's now I think there is a fair difference between ONE - Cooper and Cooper - Cooper S. A bit more than a bit quicker I thought. |
