United-States Help everyone!!! Why is MINI USA holding my car hostage?

My 2004 EB/W MCS arrived at the dealership on Friday. I’ve visited my car; my Motoring Advisor said it is all washed up, prepped, under the cover in the delivery bay, ready to be delivered. I’ve prepared to pay for the car, and my insurance is taken care of. Everything has been ready since Friday. So what’s stopping me from taking delivery?

I can’t take delivery because MINI USA has not sent my dealer a piece of paper called the Certificate of Origin. I am in Massachusetts, and we need the C of O to register a new car. MA does not offer temp plates. My Motoring Advisor had hoped that the C of O would be Fedexed here today, but this morning he found out it is not even generated (printed) yet. Once it is printed, it still has to be sent from New Jersey MINI headquarters to the dealership before I could take delivery of my car.

What were you thinking MINI USA? Did you guys not realize here in Massachusetts (and possibly some other states) we need that piece of paperwork in order to take delivery of the car? You’ve already sent my dealer, MINI of Peabody, about 60 cars in the past 3 days. Did you not realize that they could not deliver most of them, since most cars are ordered by Massachusetts residents? My Motoring Advisor said he could only deliver one of his cars to a NH resident. Even Maine residents cannot take delivery of the car because they only get a 1-day temp plate.

866-ASK-MINI is of absolutely no help. All he could say was I apologize for the inconvenience but there is absolutely nothing we at customer service can help you.

Does anyone know anybody at MINI/BMW USA that I can talk to to expedite this process? What can I do? Can anyone help me?

Don't have a cow, man! Sounds like you have already done all possible expediting. Life is full of big and little disappointments -- one or maybe two extra days of waiting won't spoil your MINI experience.

Cool

hey katanapilot,
I am stuck in the same boat. I saw my car over the weekend and the only thing that I need now is the CO. I guess every state has its idiosyncrasies (even i though i think mass has more than usual!), i guess the only thing it to wait another day. My MA has told me that it i should be able to take delivery on wednesday.
Lets hang in there!!!

That sucks Katana, but I also agree that a couple more days wait will not make a big difference. Come to think of it, we have been waiting for our new cars for a long time already (I have been waiting for my '04 MCS since late January) so a few more hours here and there will not make it much worse.

My new MCS is getting a few accessories fitted by the dealer as we speak so it might not be ready until tomorrow or Wednesday at the latest.

Hang in there friend, you are closer to your new MINI than you might think.

Also when you have to wait for something you really want and can't have it right now, you are developing a very valuable human virtue (That seems to be getting lost in our "Coke Machine" society) called "PATIENCE".

Enjoy!

I'm in the same club, I visited my car saturday morning... There really isn't any option but to wait for the CO to arrive... They are never shipped with new cars (even domestically.) My MA told me not to expect mine before thursday (I'm waiting a little bit longer for the JCW kit to be installed...) The dealership did receive about 82 cars between friday and saturday and I expect it will take a long time for them to prep them all...

I failed to mention another reason why I was so eager to take delivery as early as possible.
MINI of Peabody did get a lot of cars this weekend. I think the number 82 is about right. I have never seen so many MINIs parked next to each other. Can you imagine the dealership trying to deliver 82 cars in the space of a few days?

My car came in with the first batch on Friday. I really want to get it as soon as possible because in a few days, all 82 owners would want to take delivery, and I might not be able to squeeze it in. They only have 6 service bays and 1 delivery bay in the showroom.

As for getting other goodies from my dealer, I really don't think so. Any of my Peabody friends have any luck?

wow Kars, that is great news.
MINI of Peabody has yet again showed us why they are the best.
They know we want our cars, and they are doing all they can to try to expedite this process. I only hope MINI USA is as responsive when it comes to dealing with various issues.

Once we get our C of O in and schedule our deliveries, please post here. We might be able to meet each other at the dealership!

Thumbs up

I think MINI of Peabody are awesome but I am sure they do a lot of incentive to get 80 cars and their owners off their back. Also, I'm sure every day they sit on their inventory, they lose money.

I am scheduled to pick up at 4 PM on wednesday...if nothing changes....
yeah i hope to meet you to...

Hi everyone,

I have an update.
The GM of the dealership apparently went down to New Jersey himself to get the C of Os. He has just arrived back at MINI of Peabody.

I can pick up my car right now if I want to..... But of course, I am tied up with work, and my MA is off tomorrow :-(

I will be there first thing, bright and early, on Thursday morning to pick up my car! Anyone else picking their car up from MINI of Peabody on Thurs morning?

Kars, it looks like I am not going to be able to meet you, but enjoy your car!

Katana, congrats! I am going to be out of town for the next week and a half or else I would shoot up there to hang out. Will see you at the Pulley Party though.

Do you fly Katanas at BED?
