Offline | Quick boring fact for those that mentioned me and my stats. November 2003, the month after demise (or otherwise) starting being discussed we had about 32,500 new posts made to the forum. November 2006, the month after this thread was revived, we had about 65,000 posts made to the forum. So in terms of "Forum death" and conversation drying up, I guess the fact the post count has doubled in the same month of 2006 compared to 2003, the community is doing OK. | It's only a one... Honest | Paul haha, touche! I only joined a few months ago and have learnt so much... even if people leave here, so long as some with good knowledge can remain and continue to pass it on to others that can in turn also pass it on then I see this forum only growing! I'm on a watersports forum that's been around for about 10 years now and is still going from strength to strength. Just my 2 cents... Mike |

| Remember | interesting to hear ![]() I think forum death only seems to be on the horizon when say an old timer on here gets bored of seeing the same thing over and over, not taking part in the fun, moaning about things not been in their comfort zone. The only way to avoid forum death is to keep up with the times and the new faces, or you will become a part of the history rather than the future. Oh and their is no Forum Death, only forum user death ![]() The only problem I have is knowing which one to drive? ![]() |

Offline | Interesting topic, this has been mentioned a couple of times before on numerous other forums. Forum death only happens when a forum Stagnates and does not adapt to the needs and requirements/or listens to the people who make the forum what it is - they are meant to be a lively and interesting place where people with a common interest can discuss their shared interest AND other topics. (Without variety folks will not hang around, who wants to keep reading the same questions and answers on a single core subject?) Lose the variety - lose members its that simple. Give people something that they want and they will keep coming back. MINI2 and a lot of other forums provide this variety, okay it may not be all to some peoples taste but you cannot keep everybody happy all the time. There is always the moderation issue that can play a big part in Forum survival, get your moderation wrong and you will kill the forum quicker than anything else. There is a very fine line between over and under moderation, we have been lucky with MINI2 that moderation has never been a big issue with the majority of members who do see it as fair. (I have to admit that this is one of the rare forums that explains its moderation decisions when queried.) As long as forums can keep the majority of users occupied with items of interest and treat them fairly they will be around for quite a while longer. Its a very difficult job and the only way to get through it is we all work together as a team..... |

Offline | Ok , shoes on the other foot. I play bass guitar and have been doing "the bass forum thing" for years. Yes, the same topics come up over and over and yes "try the search button you moron" is usually offered by someone. Keep in mind that most people join forums to interact with others that have similar interests. If the desire was to just gain info by reading the great exalted wisdom of others there would be no need to join a forum. Just visit and read. I find the "remember how cool it was when we first started the forum and it was just us cool guys here attitude" to be more annoying. Yes , I just joined and I'm excited about my Cooper. Like a kid at Christmas. I asked about waving and several people were polite and replied. It didn't dawn on me that I should do a search on waving. I was making my first attempt to talk to others who also love Mini's. If I have to make sure my post hasn't been beaten to death before I post it, maybe it's best to just wave at other Mini drivers and imagine they are in some way like me. |
