Thumbs down *ADVICE NEEDED* What should I do?

Right jus wondering what people would do if this happened to ther'ye car after being in the dealer..

I was at dealer as front indicator lens got broken, picked it up from parts and started fitting it myself in the car park, was going ok until dropped screw-no problem went to parts and got another 2, then dropped those aswell along with my screw driver. As some people may know that that the front skirt and front bumper is fairly tight and you have to get the bumper off to get anything out that has dropped down.

I went into dealership and explaind what happened, they agreed to fit my lens and they would have to take front bumper off to do this (1 hours labour) no problem as I would get my screw driver back aswell!
1 hour later car is returned with new lens and I was told Screwdriver is in boot, paid up and left, checked the boot and could not find no screwdriver anywhere. Went back to service desk and asked where it was to which he had to come out and check my boot then walk around dealership syaing it must of fallen out when he drove it around the back.
Because was late for work I said not to worry as long as it still aint in bumper, to which he replied no they couldnt see it.

Driving back home tonight doing around 60 down a country lane and heard a massive bang under car. Knew exactly what it was, turned around and what did I find on road......
Yep stupid screw driver.

Sorry to babble on but what would other people do in this situation, as screw driver could of done alot of damage (will find out tommorow in morning if it has or not)

The labour charge was 39 quid, I think i'm entitled to my money back but dont know what my rights are, any ideas?

Thanks

Simon

First, I'd check under the car and be sure there isn't any damage, you may need to have it up in the air to be sure.

Let us know what you find out when you look.

After that, I think it would be fair for them to refund a good portion of the labor cost, though it doesn't sound like a dealer I'd like to be at, especially if they really said 'no we can't see it' that just is false, since he said before it was in the boot.

Perhaps you should start looking for a new dealer 1st, then based on how responsive they are to your request for a refund see if its worth pursuing. Especially if they're annoyed at you, its not like its a good dealer to continue using.

Magic 8-ball was correct. All be in awe of Magic 8 ball.

1.go to dealer
2. find guy who worked on car/ or whoever said they put it in the boot.
3. tell him to bend over to look for screw driver
4. shove screwdriver up his *****
5. tell him you will remove it for 39 quid.

Not sure his donkey would be too pleased about that!

Seriously, the issue you have is that you were told the screwdriver was in the boot when they'd not even found it. It's not a really terrible thing to do, but it's a lie and it's bad customer service to tell lies.

If there's damage caused then I'd be looking for them to pay for it and some recompence for your time.

If there's not any damage, I'd tell them you won't be using them again and walk away.

Either way, I wouldn't go back in future.

To be honest I doubt a screwdriver could do a lot of damage just bounce around and make loadsa noise.

You have no proof that it fell out from the bumper unless there is any damage, so why bother you've got your screwdriver back and a new lense fitted

My opinion anyway

Thanks for your Replies

Firstly I am going to ask them to get the car on the ramp, i'm hoping there is no damage but like said there could be as it made one hell of a bang on the under carriage of the car and I was going fair speed.
I still have the invoice I was given and it states " Replace right front indicator complete part supplied and in boot. Not great English but thats what was said, nothing was put back into my boot.
The other point I am going to bring up is that if he had taken the bumper off, he would for sure of seen the screwdriver, and point out that if I had been on a Dual Carriageway for instance the consequences might have been alot worse.

I very much doubt that I will be going back to that garage in the future and they will have that in writing addressed to the Dealer Principal.

.

That doesn't mention anything about a screwdriver though ... all it says is the parts are being supplied by you and can be found in the boot. (probably so the machanic doesn't go taking one out of stock and charging you for new parts.

Were there any written directions on the service order concerning the screwdriver removal? or was it just verbal with the manager?
