Offline | Picked up a Pure Silver ONE yesterday with a dodgy door, paint or laquer is darker, just one door, all other panels are fine....I have read the problems about mottling etc....basically what would you do..... A New Car ? Live with it ? Or let them Paint it ? Its great looking thing with such a minor fault, but its brand spank and should be perfect IMHO... She chose it and already loves it...ONE, Pepper pack, MFSW, CD Boost, Manual Air, Viz Pack, Alarm, Heated Washers etc.....and Red Cloth Kaleido....the absolute Bizz.... But What should we do ? Any thoughts appreciated... Thanks for your time . Nige |

Offline | My example is from 10 years ago, so I know paint and painting techniques have changed since then. My Mum bought a Rover Metro Gta back in '91. When she went to pick it up she noticed the dealership had scratched it down the drivers side (starting from the drivers door and finishing at the rear light cluster) the dealership apologised and resprayed the side of the car. 10 years on and the side of the car had faded a considerable amount, the top coat of laquer had also begun peeling a lot around the windows. We are now 12 years since buying the car (brand new) and the resprayed side of the car looks awful and the laquer has come off completely within 2 inches of the windows. That's just our experience anyway. |

Offline | It's not just a paint issue Jeb, your dealership has failed to complete their PDI satisfactorily. They have handed over to you an imperfect product. Now I have no connection with the car trade, but surely the first thing should be a external visual inspection - why proceed further in such a situation? As a customer I would expect to be advised in advance by the dealer if any build issues had been encountered. Good luck and keep us posted. |

Offline | Hey Jeb, Sorry to hear about your problem, hope it hasn't spoilt the MINI experience. If the dealer resprays it, it will be overed by the MINI guarantee, they should do a good job too, if they don't make them do it again. Is the mottling just on the door? If so, how about asking them for a new door? Could then just take the old one off and replace it with a new one - how long would that take??? The dealer is in the wrong here, the car should be fixed to your satisfaction. Don't be afraid to make a nuisance of yourself. You've spent a lot of money on the car it should be perfect (well OK, apart from the rattles )Let us know how you get on. IB ONE, Seven Hole Alloys, Air Con, CD, Chrome bits - Now with Chrome mirrors and chrome side vents + Custom engraved Whalen Shift Knob and four, yes four driving lights! |

Offline | Hi folks, thanks for the input.... Cars a day old now and she loves it like her own child, or in her case a cat.... I don't want to change just the door, rattles etc.....cars only a day old..... The repaint idea bugs me too because its only a day old...get where I'm going with this... Its the 2nd car off the dealer in 6 months, and will no doubt be going back when the old banger needs refreshing. I will defend the sales folk as they have been outstanding and very good thus far... I should have just walked away but the pull on the heart strings is too much when its all shiney and new....and the redness inside just lusts after ya... I think I have persueded t'other half to get fixed up with a new ONE, will be January now before it lands. I can't help thinking that the way there has been little resistance and much that the dealer either knew of the fault or worrie about BMW and what they'd have to say if i was upset. Still like to hear what people would do in this position. regards Nige |

Offline | Don't be put off by the re-paint idea. It's likely the car was damaged somewhere between factory and dealer and has already been repaired/re-painted - hence the different colour door. They just need to do a better job this time. My wife works for a dealer and about 25% of the cars they get are damaged - either on the boat or on transporter wagons, the latter especially. That's across a number of marques. |

Offline | Sorry - I meant to add. This time when they re-spray it, instead of just doing the door, they need to fade it in across the two adjacent panels so any difference in shade is less noticable. |

Offline | I understand the whole side would have to get painted and the pre or post delivery damage had crossed my mind also...If they start sparaying the whole side the bonnet would need doing aswell and you can't just do the wing on one side ....which would in turn mean the whole bonnet oh and then the other side would have to be blown in to match the bonnett......hatch might be OK as it is though... If it was pre delivery and the factory can't get it right then what chance does a dealers approved workshop have I wonder ? Hmmmm, thikn mind is made up....dya think they'd let us pay the extra and have a Cooper ? regards Nige |

Offline | I can understand you not wanting just a new door. No guarantees that the paint lot would match. I think they should let you keep that one until a new one comes in the right color all over. ![]() |
