MINIs in the Snow!

What are your experiences and advice for driving the MINI in winter snow conditions?
With the low ride height, are there any special concerns to be aware of?
How does the MINI respond in the snow?

No problem!

Hiya -

We had Max up in the North Cascades of Washington State 2 weekends ago and there was about 6 inches of snow in the pass. I had no problems, but the pickup truck in front of me was having some difficulty. But after living in Anchorage for 4 years, driving in snow is second nature to us now.

I did notice that Max would scrape the snow accumulated in the center of the lane, but it was just noise - nothing to worry about.

What wheels/tires are you running on Max? Up here in Victoria BC we don't get much snow but we do get it so wheels and tires remain my last "undecided" item.

Cheers.

We're here in the Northwest as well. Conservative water utility forecasts are for colder temperatures and more lowland snow this year. I have Anchorage experience too, and all my growing up years in Midwest winters, so driving isn't the problem -- it's having the proper equipment ready for my wife and me.

The front air dam is a real scrapper so I'm considering a set of dedicated Dunlop snow tires on 15x5.5" R-81 wheels.

Max has the 17" Performance Pirelli Run Flats. But as most people know - the problem ususally isn't MY car, it's the idiot behind the wheel of the OTHER car!

With good tires, the MINI is great in snow. I'll be putting the 195/55R16H Dunlop SP WinterSport M3 DSSTs (phew!) back on next month. As said above, you'll plow a little bit with the airdam lip on occasion but nothing to be worried about. Ride height isn't a problem in my experience. ASC+T, ABC, EBD, CBC and just a well-balanced car in general make the MINI fun and safe in the white stuff.

Besides Dunlop's DSST, there are two other winter run flats available:

195/55-16 Pirelli Winter 210 Snowsport

205/45-17 Pirelli Winter 240 Snowsport

Check the FAQ on winter tires for links to more info on these:
