Offline | How to tell a One from a Cooper I keep seeing this lovely looking, all black MINI, but with no model badge, and it's really got me intrigued. Is it a One, or is it a Cooper. How can I tell? Someone mentioned the chrome exhaust pipe (which it has) - but I thought you could buy that as an extra. Are there any sure-fire signs that would give away this mystery MINI's secret? |

Offline | MINI Cooper has the 'Budweiser can' exhaust, the optional chrome exhaust is not so contoured. Apart from that, if you spec up a One to be more 'Cooper like' in appearance, there's not really any tale tale signs I can think of, especially now there's the chrome pack. | MINI2 Veteran | Wing mirror covers, if they are shiny black or white, then its a cooper. Boot lid handle, if its chrome then its a cooper Front bumper chrome inserts, if they are black, its a one. Suspension, the cooper is 10mm lower than the one. Both excellent cars, but i love it, chip a one, and u get 5 hp more.!!!!!! i love the cooper owners giving me a run for the money!!!!! ![]() Focus > Mini One > Mini Cooper > Mini Cooper > BMW 316 > BMW 318 > MINI ONE > BMW 120i > MINI ONE PEPPER! - IM BACK!! |

Offline | Not if you've got the chrome pack, which I'm guessing (big guess) by the tailpipe they have. Also, you get matt black wing mirrors on the one as standard, not shiny, but again, you can chrome those too. 10mm suspension would be hard to see with the naked eye and sports suspension is now a MINI One option too. ![]() Our trials and tribulations living in a "bleeding edge" eco house... Offline | cristo - you might have stumbled on the only true way of telling. It's definately not a MCS, so if it has RC3 for digits 4-6 then it's a Cooper. If it doesn't, then it must be a One. With all the options that can be had on a One these days, it seems that this may well be the only method of telling. Thanks everyone. Sj |

Its all very simple, if no model badge its a very sad case and ashamed ONE owner. Oh! dear what have I said, just looked at the back of the all black Mini Beast in the drive. Who cares, its a great little car. ![]() ![]() |

![]() Man about the house | With all due respect, I don't understand why you would order a ONE and then put all the extras on to make it look like a Cooper? Surely it can't be for financial reasons as I would think it more expensive to make a ONE into a Cooper than to just buy the Cooper. D-lite-full |
