Canada Rear Dog Seat Cover - where can I get one?

Hey everyone.

Just got my MINI a couple of weeks ago - and I love it, but I need a good rear seat cover for my dog, Jpeg.
Jpeg is a large greyhound - and he is with mummy quite a bit of the time.

I have purchased a waterproof liner for right now from a pet supply shop. It is a flat sheet - seems like it will do the trick for a little while, but I don't think it is a good permanent solution.

MINI makes a great dog seat cover, gorgeous. It lines the entire backseat area and even covers the speakers - the sides suction cup up to the windows. It is made out of the pleather (my seats are pleather - perfect.) It is $400 - and I have to order it from BMW. Should take 2 weeks.

Has anybody order the MINI Dog Seat Cover? Anyone have any good alternatives or suggestions. All the other pet seat covers look like poo or are too big for MINI.

TIA

I've got the mini load cover (back seats folded down) which attaches through the headrest, then suction cup to the windows, and velcro fasteners to the rear hatch. It zips up to make a 'box' in the load area. It's made of leather look vinyl - it cost £80 from MINI, and I waited about 2 days for it?

There was also a rear seat only cover (which could be what you are looking for) but I don't think it was much more expensive (about £100) again from MINI? Is this the same one?

I've got the one with the seats in their normal position. This attaches to the headrests too and forms a 'tub' for the dog. It's got holes for the seatbelts so you can strap the dogs in with a harness and still cover the car.
Well worth the money! Excellent"

Here are some pictures of a nice custom-made dog cover a member here made. I know he posted a message here a few months back where he gave the necessary dimensions to make one. I might be wrong, but I think he goes by nwmini.

omigod, love the pictures, blahahaha. too funny...

I tried getting my grey to travel with the rear seats folded down (w/blankets, etc. all nice and comfy) but he is such an @ss. He won't lie down or stay lying down and he is sooo leggy that his back touches the roof when he stands. When he finally decided to lay down, he tried to crunk himself in the boot - between the hatch and the back of the folded seat.

I think I will probably go with the MINI seat cover. Best fit, I think and perhaps the easiest solution.

That astro turfy sheet I mentioned in my original post is actually working out quite well. It will do nicely till the cover comes from Germany.

Thanks guys
Reb

I have it (the BMW made thing). It's damn expensive, but is more than up for the job. The only problem I have is that one of the suction cups(?) that is holding the thing up in the back windows is not working well. Besides this minor issue it covers the whole area (fron seat covers, seats, backseats including headrests etc.) really well, has sort of anchors to make it fit perfectly, has holes for the seatbelts and even has an additional pocket available for the front seat. You can really tell it's tailor made for this car. Our clever fellow tho knows already how to get to the frontseat if left alone there, but for transportation it's really great!

Oh and be warned, it must be poor on performance quite like the 17S-spokes it must weigh like a tonne or so.

Hi swedishpony,

I have one of the covers that you are looking for, I haven't used it and I am not going to be using it. It is still in the original package and I'm sure we could figure out a price that would save you money. If you are interested send me a private message and we'll work on details.

I also saw (and saved) that post and photos. I don't remember who posted it but I liked the look of it and plan to make one soon. Here is the post with the measurements....

The cover in my shots was made by me. VERY simple. Since most thick fabrics come in a 45" width, all you need to do is fold the edges over about a 1/4" and sew down the side. This reinforces the sides from unraveling. Just make sure you get at least 9' in length. Again, tuck under the edges, only this time about 5" and sew it down. Now cut holes in each end that correspond to where the headrest for front and back secure into the seatbacks. Use grommets in the holes you cut to keep them from unraveling. Now you have a 9' x 45" piece that can be attached by taking off the headrests, inserting them thru the grommets on each end of the fabric length. I took it a couple steps further by sewing batting to the underside of where the backseat bottom would be, so as to cushion the doggie bottoms from the seatbelt anchors...also added a little flap that can be unfolded so as to protect the side sills when they get in/out....ScotchGuarded it all to prevent it from absorbing water if they were wet...and made side pillows to protect the plastic sides of the backseat area.

If I was to do it all over again, I'd do it the same, only no side pillows. I'd sew on "wings" that could be stuck to the windows with suction cups, thereby protecting the plastic sides of the backseat.

Hi,

Is there an easy-on/off rear seat cover that doesn't have the "tub" effect?
I use the champk-9 harness system so need the kind with holes for the seatbelts to poke through. I also want the rear headrests to be covered as I'm getting leather and I want it covered completely with my 2 dogs in the back.

I've got on order a 2005 Pepper White with a black roof so am hoping to find either a black or cream pet rear seat cover and in a quilt-like material, if its available. Everything online I'm coming across is waaaaay too wide for the MINI. Any help, better yet, links would be so great!

Thanks!

I ordered the official one from the dealer when I ordered my MINI. It was a birthday present - I didn't fancy the £120 price tag! It is brilliant though...as mentioned above, hooks over the rear seat headrests so it doesn't slip down like a blanket would, tabs to tuck in and around the rear seats etc.....one thing I noticed about having a big dog in the back of a MINI - the seatbelt catches stick quite a way above the seats and my dog wouldn't lie don't until I put a cushion over them!

hello, ive bought the mini protective boot cover, the one where the back seats are folded down and what ive found strange is the zip design. i just want to know if anybody else's has a zip on the inside (seems strange seeing as once uve installed it and you want to close the square shape, the zip ought to be on the outside so one can zip it easily). seems like BMW has done a design fault...just need to know if ive got a dodgy one or if everybody's is like it. thanks

They are all like that. The only reason I can possibly come up with, is so that the metal bit on the zip that you pull it up or down with doesn't rub on the interior plastic trim and mark it?
