Offline | Once done, the 6-Switchs Yield a Balance to the Interior's Appearance Howdy, vegasmini! Howdy, CurtP! We recently sourced the correct 6-Toggle "Switch" from a MINI dealer & installed it ourselves. It's really very easy (I mostly watched & learned ) & you'll feel fab & after doing it yourself! Instructions on MINI2 provide great guidance, are less complicated than MINI's dealer-instructions & are "safer for avoiding scratches to the downtubes." It's interesting if you care to check into such things. Of course one still needs to go to the dealer to get a software update to activate them. [Hubby's scared about that,- doesn't want them to download a version exposing a further Yo-Yo or Stutter problem. Just to say, - if you're really anxious. I think it cost $83 UPS'd to the house with an Oil Filter ($7) thrown in. -Lucka ![]() |

Offline | jlivingood, I'm curious what your dealer charged you for the programming since it sounds like you installed the switch yourself. I put my new switch in, but haven't made it to the dealer yet for the programming. |

Offline | Classic MINI is an MCO Sponsor, but for whatever reason doesn't sponsor here. If you call them (MINI parts under www.driveclassic.com) and ask for the MCO discount (or discount, they're not too picky) they'll ship you whatever OEM parts you need at a discount, depending on what their markup on that is. 1/2 Labor is sorta a standard minimum charge, so you can't really fault them for charging it, even if it takes 10 min. They do need to bring the car in, write it up, plug it in, etc, so its more then just 1 min work. Best plan is to get them to do it when they're doing something else, like an oil change or warranty work. Dealers are in business to make money. Just not $112 worth of programming money, that's the insane part. Magic 8-ball was correct. All be in awe of Magic 8 ball. |

Offline | A fellow sufferer. You got one up on me because I can guarantee you it'll cost me no matter what. ![]() Have you gotten the "If you don't like us you can always go someplace else" line yet. I have. This from the Service Manager I think he lost about 5 pounds of ***** immediately after uttering that idiocy. I enjoyed that one. ![]() |

Offline | Got the switch panel from Classic for $60, installed the panel tuesday night, brought it into my dealer to be activated (and for my 10K service) yesterday morning. They charged me $36 for the activation (approx 1/3 hour labor). They have to hook up to the car's computer, go into a series of menus to activate the fogs, and then reconfigure your memory options (DRLs, autolock, etc) because for some reason they get set to their defaults along the way. I don't think 20 minutes labor is unreasonable for this. Deealer was Peabody MA, BTW. Those guys are great. |

Offline | For some reason anytime you touch anything programmed this happens. If you want to change an option, you need to reset them all. If you get a new CDs software you need to reset them all. Its just some MINI service quirk thing. Go figure. Magic 8-ball was correct. All be in awe of Magic 8 ball. |

Offline | I Know Where You're At! Piggly-wigglies! That's gotta be 100% profit mark-up on an otherwise economical part. I'm sorry to hear it obehave! Uglyness. Others are running into the same, rude, 5' 5" blonde-syndrome treatment?! [Next time around, ask her how much for the "Special 1/2 hour Back-Alley MINI Fun" she usually performs, while they change your oil. ] j/kWe haven't even approached our nearest dealer for fear of running into the same discussed herein, which we saw in INDY where we bought our MINI. [We called it the GAP Store from Hell Treatment! ] Further, we already had fine, weasel-treatment from the MINI Sales Manager, "Mr. Dud" [not his real name] at a WI MINI dealer, losing our first MCS purchase; so, I'm nervous about their MINI Service Center.Point: Few easily get over poor customer treatment, especially regarding an expensive purchase (1) & one with an emotional attachment (2). I'm going to tell them I already paid MINI Service in INDY to install & program it, but, hmm, the programming didn't take?! Could you please do it once more? I'll offer to tip the service person $20. OK. $36. That's scooterboy's happy result & it's fair. What am I saying?! $1.80/minute is "fair?!" *But obehave's MINI Service Center needs to get smacked! ![]() PS. Anyone throwin' in the diode once re-programmed, to resume the brake-light mod? Last edited by SugarBelly : Oct 31st, 2003 at 04:44 PM. |
