Offline | We still have a '93 Honda Accord 2.0 Auto in the family. 260,000 miles, dented all over, with a/c and abs, last serviced about 50,000 miles ago. Only fault in 13 years? Offline | Now be honest, your "auto-extending and retracting" antenna still works? Seriously, you got a "Good" Accord. After the experience with ours, my dad said he would never ever buy another Accord again. Other than a Ford Windstar Minivan, everyone in my family buys German cars now. |

Offline | Since when has the country that invented the concept of "planned obsolescence" been promoted to the "lengendary reliability" category? Did I miss something? Comparing the numbers of +5 yr old Japanese cars on the road with actual numbers sold, I don't think so. -- '03 S B/W |

Offline | Apparently so. Year after year the Japanese cars top the reliability charts here in the UK. I believe this year the MX-5 was top of the list, and Mazda the top manufacturer. Merc and VW slipped pretty low this year if I recall correctly, with Mercedes slipping 2 whole categories. I'll fish out a few links if you want. ![]() |

Offline | The aerial still works. My dad cleans it regularly with WD40. The only dodgy item is the drivers electric window which is starting to take time to open/close.My dad originally bought the car as a stopgap whilst waiting for a new Merc. After 5 years he'd covered 150,000 miles and the plan was to drive it into the ground. Since then it's had irregular servicing and the attentions of my 4 younger brothers and sisters who learnt to drive in it. The last "proper" Merc that my Dad owned was a W126 500SE. All the recent cars of appalling quality. ![]() 6X therapist | Quote, "If Honda made people, nobody would ever die", don't know who said it, but having worked for Honda for a while, I'd probably agree. Bloody boring though, even the type 'R''s are uninteresting to drive , good but sort of sterile if you know what I mean. |

Offline | As a transition vehicle between my '99 ML-320 (39 months, 20 warranty repairs) and my MCS, I bought a '91 Accord for $2000 that had 273,000 miles on it. It had stuff broken when I got it (passenger window regulator, radio, motor-mouse seatbelts), but it still drove well (power antenna still worked, too!) and nothing new went wrong with it for the 8 months I had it. It's one reason why I'm looking at Hondas to replace the MCS. I drove to the dealer yesterday for the usual MINI driver's seat creak - it wouldn't "perform" for them so I spent 5 hours in the car for nothing. Of course, this morning.... Offline | The reliability of present days Hondas is not near as good as those vehicles manufactured in the late 1980's and early 1990's. I have owned 6 Accords and 2 Acuras and my experience is that these cars while good, they have thier own share of problems that tend to creep up soon after the warranty expires. Our '99 Accord LX was a piece of junk. The brakes never lasted more than 10K miles. This was an automatic and we never rode the brakes. Service dept admitted that the weakest links of the previous gen Accord were the brakes and the automatic transmission. We since replaced the Accords with 2 Chevy Impala's that so far have proven to be much more reliable tha the Accords that preceeded them. I sold my '01 Impala LS in July to get my new '04 MCS but the car never saw the dealer service bay in 22K miles. I sold it to my sister's neighboors and thy are delighted with the car. The car was in showroom, prisitine condition. Sold it for $14K in 15 minutes. My sister owns a '01 Impala Base sedan with the 3.4L V6 OHV engine and the car is solid as a bank vault, not a single rattle, squeak or problem. She puts nearly 2K miles a month in it and still no problems. Pretty unsual for a GM product, isn't it? The grass is not always greener on the other side, but if you think you are going to get 200,000+ miles of troublefree driving on a new Honda, I would think again. The best quality Hondas were made circa 1988-1991. The newer ones are not in the same league. '02 Cooper CVT PW/B '05 MCS CR/W |
