England Should it stay or should it go?

Ok, so some people may say I'm a bit @nal about my Cooper, but I love it. Just seems it doesn't love me. I've had it for just over a year now and at first all seemed ok. Then I noticed the dirver's seat cover didn't fit right (lining showing), the sunroof rattled, the steering wheel wasn't straight, nor was the back number plate and one of the seats vibrates. I got a chip on the bonnet the first time I drove it and then a friendly local hand-wash company scratched the bonnet and wings.. Shall I go on? Anyway the seat's fixed now and I've got used to the scratches. The sunroof was fixed, but now it's got cold out it's rattling again. To top it all I opened the door yesterday to find a pool of water in the driver's footwell... Anyway, am I being too possessive or should I change the Cooper? Trouble is, there's nothing that comes close (apart from an S...) Cheers.

Keep it. At least you know what's wrong with it. No surprises. The things that happened to you could happen to anyone, any car. I, too, have that sunroof rattle. What did they do to fix yours? They failed to fix mine. So, while I have these problems, too, I'm still in love with the car.

first of all,

Get BMW to sort out all of your problems with the car, then be quiet and enjoy the wonderful piece of machinery.

Become one of the people who Love their cars, it will work out for you soon.

Has had too many minis

I agree. On top of my first ('01) MINI being rejected after 7 months because of unfixable faults, I've had quite a few problems with my present MINI when new (including having to have a new gearbox and steering rack ) , but the dealer's fixed them all now.

The MINI is going well now and seems to be behaving itself (probably all the presents I keep buying it ................... bit like the wife then! ), so I intend on keeping it for a while yet!

If I changed it for another MINI at the moment, looking at the problems people are still having with their MINI's of all models, I could end up with a MINI that ends up a right dog! Also with the rumoured changes of the MINI over the next couple of years, if you presently own a MINI I think you'd be mad to part ex it for another just yet!

If it's not giving you to much hassle, keep it for a couple more years!

Dont put up with this, go to BMW and get this sorted out, i mean why would you put up with your car leaking?
Yes you may love the car, but it seems very badly built, you need to this sorted now, then sell it, and get yourself another one if you can, because the one you have at the moment sound abit dangerous!

Let us know how you get on, but PLEASE dont put up with stuff like this, you have payed alot of money!!

Yes, make sure the dealer fixes ALL your concerns and problems with the car! I know it will get embarrassing keep phoning and taking it in because I've been there (they even offered to name a seat after me in reception! but they did agree with everything I threw at them and treated me very well in the end ), but you are GOD to them because you are the customer and you have all the right in the world to make yourself a pain in the ****!

After owning one MINI, rejecting it over bad build quality and finding the replacement ended up having more serious faults than the one I rejected! , I've resigned myself to the fact that if you wan't a MINI, you have to be prepaired to use the warranty and dealer in the first 12 months of ownership!

That doesn't make it right, but it just seems a fact!

Also in the MINI's defence, in my view, the look, drivability and MINI2 run outs make the initial hassle worth while!

BMW replaced the wind deflectors, twice, blaming the strength of the springs. But it took several months of chasing. I am known now (very well) by my dealer and even had a JCW S as a loan car last time my Cooper was in.
Guess I'll be back on the phone about my latest woe tomorrow.. In some ways it's reassuring to know I'm not the only one, but surely BMW can build a car without all the probems I read about on these forums. Or is it the old 80/20 rule that comes into play?
