Apparently the factory will undergo major re-fit to include manufacturing facilities for the convertible

I'm in the Netherlands. How soon would I need to order to get my car on the road by the end of feb 2004?

Depends on the spec, but 12 to 16 weeks is not unusual from order to delivery.

No factory shut down, cars will still be produced at about 500 to 600 a day, but some tweaking of production levels will have to happen or the cabrio wo'nt happen.
Order now, and tell your dealer when you want the car, that way it can be scheduled in with the easiest run for when you want it.

They will certainly have an 'interesting time' keeping on top of things from what I've heard.

That'll mean build quality will get worse than what it already is!

I'm from Holland also, my Cooper took exactly one month from order to dealer, (not prepped yet though) but I understand that that was pretty quick.. (I ordered from MINI Den Haag by the way, they're real nice and good!)

Good luck!
