Exclamation Roundabouts

i have a big problem with roundabouts. I keep going round them too fast & surprising people pulling on to them in front of me & then have to brake 'cos they weren't expecting me to be there so quick. What can i do?

Slow down

I only go quickly when there's no one else about as it's not worth the risk of someone running into you.

I've been hit in the side THREE TIMES on a roundabout, every time I was taking it easy, yet I admit I often (usually) go pretty quick around them without incident! Irony sucks.

the chances of being involved in a roundabout related incident in MK must be significantly higher than the rest of the country though

This has been discused way way back. I remember as I started the thread
You do get loads of people entering roundabouts infront of you underestimating your progress
I just brake and lean on the horn, sometimes even give them the "bird"

I'd argue that there should be a little more give/anticipation from MINI drivers. Just because you can enter a rounadbout fast doesn't mean that you are automatically in the right. The other motorist does have the right to expect someone to approach at a reasonable speed in which they can safely react to youand you to them. Would you be happy to change from Lane 2 to 3 and find a 180mph Ferrari bearing down on you?

Or white van.

As I've said, the only problem I've ever had on a roundabout is people hitting me while I was on the roundabout when not going at any kind of real speed!

Once I was completely knocked full on the side (in my Mini) by an American tourist who 'didn't see me' and 'was tired after driving on the motorway'.

Another time I had a car just drive straight into the side of me/my rear wheel arch, no excuse given apart from he didn't see me?!

Then a transit van squashed me, I was next to him and he decided his lane wasn't big enough (it was). 'Where were you then?' came the question... Durrr.

I tend to disagree. You don't pull out into a main road in front of people do you if they're coming at you faster then the speed limit?????
You judge if you can make it or not by judging their speed by looking at the approaching vehicle. The same should apply to roudabouts
What generally happens is that people try to squeeze into the smallest of gaps when entering a roundabout. There's far less care taken IMO at roundabouts
I get this happening at least three times a week on my commute and it wasn't just down to my MINI. In other cars I've driven this happens too

OK but on ssome bigger roundabouts where you don't have a line of sight, you can pull out and them someone going unreasonably fast appears.

agree - not worth contemplating going quickly round a roundabout unless it isn't busy.

Roundabouts are easy.

Look at This Map of my town. Every circle is a roundabout (full size) and there's loads more too that are mini-roundabouts, not on the map at that scale!

We also have over 700 bridges in the area. More than double Venice. Amazing and interesting Milton Keynes factoid for you all.

If there"s one common worry for some of my learners its rounabouts. But I tell them the junction would be a bit more testing if the rounabout wern"t there, .
Its hard for some emergeing drivers to judge the speed of the approaching car on the rounabout, but in any case they shouldn"t emerge and cause you ( Hat ) to change speed or direction.
Always remember the emerging car is usually going a lot slower than the car already on it.
Know what you mean tho Hat , the mini handles so well on bends.
