As of now, the factory alarm does not fit the 04 MINI. Just another MINI/BMW "duogh opps" thing. It was supposed to be resolved by the end of last month but, in typical fashion its not. So lets hope for December. I would recomend it however just for simplicity and covered under warrenty and you don't have to woory about some dope screwing up the car. Just for clarity as we have people from all over visit here, this is not true worldwide, in several markets you can still get the factory alarm, no problem at all.

You can always get an aftermarket one fitted. Not everyone will 'screw up the car'

When I ordered my MCS recently, I asked my insurance company how much the factory fitted alarm would reduce my premium by. They said that it would reduce it by about £50.

Considering that the alarm costs about £200, it is not really worth it. If someone wants to nick your mini, they will alarm or not.

I hadn't even realised about the 04 mini alarm problems.

Because in the UK it isn't a problem.

Personally, I would get it fitted if you can. An aftermarket system is at least £250 if you want a CAT 1 approved alarm.

If you do end up going for an aftermarket system you may as well go for the full works and get a top end clifford - you know, with engine start, etc...
