Someone else is obviously picking up the repair tab for these guys ..... less than 50% of the field finished on a dry track.

I think we will be a little more conservative .... smooth and fast at Wakefield.

Interesting to see a gravel trap overturning a car too. It can happen

You would have to be pushing really hard to off a Mini...

I'm sure our professional training will see us avoid all that carnage.

Hi,

I agree with Boo,

You would either have to be pushing very, very hard, have a major mechanical failiure or be a very bad driver to have a major off with the mini.

However, my 2cents worth about possible mini2 track days :

* The events should be non-competitive and non-timed, orientated towards driver training, and experiencing fun trivng on the track. Obviously, groups can be streamed to drivers / cars of equal ability, but as soon as you start timing things, and posting times, inexperienced drivers start pushing things harder than they should. If people want to compete seriously they should go to other days such as BMW club motorsport days
* It would be worthwhile getting an opinion on insurance status from some of the major insurance companies. As long as the day is non-competative, non-timed driver training with proper instructors there is a chance that some insurance companies will cover it.
* Maybe one of the BMW dealerships could provide a mechanic with some basic spares to help out on the day in case of any minor mechanical problems.
* If there is going to be a motorkhana I would really like it to be on the wet skid pan / figure 8 at Eastern Creek. This venue is expensive, but is so much better than anywhere else. Due to the wet polished concrete it is more fun than any other venue, and is also less stressful on the car.

Thanks for your feedback on the track days, Brad and i are meeting with our professional trainers on thursday so your comments are very timely and appropriate. The last Mini Gymkhana I ran for Col Crawford Motors was on the skid pan at Eastern Creek, it is an excellent venue and evryone had a ball, this is where we are planning our CLUBMINI gymkhanas.

Hi,

I dont know what instructors you are speaking to. However, it would be worth checking out "tracktime". They put on excellent days, with very experienced instructors. Also, they are very safe, and do not push people too hard, or let people get aggressive.

Also, FYI there is a BMW club motorsport day at Oran Park Sunday March 7th. It would be a bummer if the days clashed

Cheers

Thanks for the imput robbo and swamos. Mini2v and cityclinic are meeting with tracktime with a view to develop training modules that are unique for MINI owners in addition to what is already provided. We have had very good feedback about the company and Mini2v has had prior experince with their services.

I have made a note to avoid March 7. We also have a show and shine day being planned for March 14 at Cronulla in conjuction with Sutherland Council. Last weekend of Feb (28-29) is looking good.

While it was fun to watch most of those drivers were absolute idiots on the track

There ain't know way known I would be game to go on a track with that many other cars, timed event or no timed event

I'm really looking forward to the track day having never done one before ... I expect that I will learn a lot and discover I make a lot more mistakes than I think I do though I have to admit I'm thinking that the tyres and brakes might take a bit of a hammering in the process

anyone else got this to work on their mac? i get audio but that's it! i got most major codecs, so i dunno what it is!
don't worry though... i managed to watch it just fine on the pc in the other room!

anyways... i reckon one of the first cars to go off [with it's wipers on] looked like a mix between the CITY.CLINIC & SMURFN MCSs... bright green with white trim!

kinda expensive to use MCs in a demo derby, but & i s'pose they could always use it as an ad for the mini's safety features!

those front grille camera angles are a killer... nice find greendevil!

Couldn't make any arrangement of Mac OS10.3.1, IE or Safari, and Windows Media Player work on this one.

'02 MINI Cooper CVT(6/12/02; Indi Blue/Black, R-81 7-hole 15x5.5" or NZO 16x6.5")
'67 Austin Cooper S (6/26/67; Tartan Red/Black, 10x4.5")

Macs lead a sheltered life, only creative types and ad agencies use em. Good to see you have expanded your horizons and bought a PC so you can keep up with the rest of the world.

& brad, the mac is only a recent acquisition, after the PC... so maybe i'm a 'creative type' !?!

& i use the mini to 'expand my horizons' [only when viewed in the rear vision!]

I loved the bit in that vid where the camera got right up close to the rear bumper "GENUINE MINI PARTS" then panned back just to make sure you knew they were "GENUINE"

Loved it. Great vid.

Jeezus, what a disaster! Obviously it was filmed over the season, but a couple of those wrecks at any one track should have been enough to stop the race.

Why didn't the cars have their "L" learner decals on?

Hi,

Dont worry, its just a quick 2 hour drive down from the airport to Wakefield park As long as you are on the early flight, no problems
