When does the factory switch model years?

I'm curious what month does MINI switch over to the next 2005 model year? Does the factory close for any re-configuring of the assembly line?

sept 1st starts the next model year. Does not close completely but does slow down depending on the amount of reconfiguring needed.

More of a slow down this year, and some funny 'staggering' going on as far as I know, because of the convertible and new "improved" MINI coming online during the course of the year.

Paul,
Have you any idea when the new facelift will start on the production line?
Will all ones and coopers get the new gearbox from when the new open starts production?
Any info you can share?
Thanks

The staggering is not due to 'Christmas Celebrations'

Interesting thread... I ordered my Cooper and the G/F her ONE in October for delivery in January.

What model is this likely to be called? 2003? 2004? or because 2005 has been mentioned already.. the latter?

Ian,

Both you and the G/F are getting the 2004 model for sure. The thing with MINI, there are always small changes happening throughout a model year till Sept 1, so you could call a 2004 model a 2004.1, 2004.2 etc throughout the production year.

I figure when the MINI cabrio comes out, plus the 'improved MINI' in the middle of next year, one could call that new MINI the 2004.5 (or even 2004.9?) I would imagine the Sept 1 2005 model would only have minor changes after the big midyear releases.

The new "improved" MINI will be designated 2005 Model Year when it arrives.

Ours was built October and titled as an '03 and some folks claim the same build date as an "04! Very confusing.
