| MINI2 Regular | I'm really bad day..somehow I lost my key last nite..not sure what happened..I think I dropped it somewhere.. I went to the dealer and they re-programmed my locking system so that the car cannot be started using the lost key...but he/she can still open the door manually... so...knowing that someone is able to get in..even though they cannot start the car...it's just not a good feeling.. anyway...they told me the only way to avoid this is to get a whole new locking system...they quoted me AU$750..which is not cheap at all.. [sigh] what a bad day...I'll get over it soon... Last edited by leon1982 : Dec 15th, 2003 at 05:17 AM. |

Offline | Tell your insurance co. I think they will pay for changing the locking sistem. it would be cheaper than paying all the interior stuff of your car if it is stolen. El mini no es un coche, es mi vida (Mini is not a car is my life) |

Offline | Sounds like its very annoying, but do you really keep anything of value in your car? If you don't, or you start avoiding it, there isn't a big worry about them getting into your car, and you save the $750.. Keep everything neat and out of sight, and you should be fine. Also, think of how many MINIs there are, the person who finds the key would need to figure out it goes to yours, which may or may not be easy. Finally, maybe you dropped it somewhere it will get found in a week, there's always that possibility. Best of luck with a tough problem. Magic 8-ball was correct. All be in awe of Magic 8 ball. |

Offline | Sorry but just wanted to make your day that little bit worse: WE WON THE RUGBY! AHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!! ![]() lol just kidding. but getting back to the locks - i would leave getting the locks changed and just risk it. At the end of the day - whats going to be stolen? your stereo...$750 could pay for a new one. |

Offline | Look on the bright side, During the night someone could have borrowed your Mini by using a Mini key they found. Personally I would get the door locks changed. Offline | Don't Worry About I'm sure that no-one will link that key to your mini, unless of course you live a small town with just the one Mini. Good to see that the Mini is popular in Oz, I'm coming over for 4 months in Sept and would miss seeing them around. I reckon someone probably found the key and has already sold it to some American on ebay, the cars are so popular you could probably get a small fortune for a genuine key. What's more worring in is that you can get into the car and start it using that little black plastic spare key. The dealer was shocked when I told them it started the car they thought it was just used to get you in whilst you wait for someone to bring your spare |
