Question Anyone offered a substitute Mini while waiting?

Just wondering since this happened to my wife with her new Toyota Prius (also a special order vehicle, $1,000 down, but for the more practical ). While waiting for hers to arrive in about a month, we got a call from the dealer today. Same car, same equipment, different color but ours if we want it. We said yes and take delivery next week.

I think if my Mini delear offered me immediate delivery on a comparably equipped car (mine is still in production), I'd do the same. Has this happened to you? Does it happen often? I wonder if I should call my dealer and inquire. Mine is scheduled to arrive in about 4-6 weeks.

I would think that would only happen if someone refused their car or cancelled the order and you were next in line with similar options

It happens when people backout or can't get financing or order somewhere else that could get it quicker.

I dare say that a Toyota Pirus isn't as customisable as a Mini. most people spend huge amounts of time decideing the exact spec of their Mini(some are really quite anal about it). If you were offerred a similar, but not quite the same spec Mini, then would you really be content? And the Pirus that you mentioned was a different colour... try doing a search on colour on this board, the amount of discussion about what colour is best jsut doesn't go away!! i can't imagine most owners wanting a particular colour car settleing for something else... its part of the whole mini ownership thing!!

All good points Tony but I could live very well with a number of color combinations though I am partial to black tops. If one of them was offered to me now with the same equipment ordered, I'd consider it very seriously. I figure it will be at least another 4-6 weeks until I take delivery. As a matter of fact, the color that was offered to my wife on her Prius was not her favorite and if it was me I think I would have waited for exactly what I want, but she wanted the car now so we can take the 2003 tax write-off - I'm the anal one in the family. She's the practical one. Mini and Prius - two totally different markets. Two totally different customers. How the two of us ever got together is beyond me.

By the way, this is what I hope my car on order will eventually look like - copy and paste from Cooper's website. Love that frost stripe on the BRG w/black top. I'll be looking to see who can do this for me in the Wash DC Area. Recommendations appreciated.

Actually, we were ready to place an order on a new MCS when we went to the dealer. They checked their database and found that they had already spec'd a car exactly like the one we did, except the dealer spec'd car had additional leather. Instead of having to wait three months, we ended up waiting only half that! I am now enjoying my car!
