United-States considering 2002 Mini

I'm considering buying a 2002 Mini Cooper to replace my 1991 Chevy Camaro. We have a "practical Minivan" to haul the kids, but I still have some questions. I saw a ad in our local paper for a 2002 Mini Cooper, green, loaded, sun roof, leather, heated seats, sports pkg, with 23K miles. I drove the car yesterday and absolutely love it! The seller is asking 19,500 OBO, I feel like this is a little high, but I don't know...any advice?

Also, I live in a rural area about 1.5 hours from the nearest BMW dealership and concerned that it would be too much of an inconvenience for me to get it worked on...any thoughts?

Thanks for your help

I agree it's a little high. You may want to check with the nearest MINI dealer for the price on a new MINI. And BTW, a BMW dealer can't service the MINI, you will have to take it to the nearest MINI dealer.

If you want to compare the price to a brand new, same spec MINI, head over to www.miniusa.com and use the built it yourself feature.

Just bought a 2002 MINI Cooper two months ago and paid less than that with 7K on the odometer. Sounds like the same options, too (unless yours has NAV).

Would suggest you consider the local of your local MINI dealer for service, etc. Will you be able to wait for a simple in/out repair? Are you willing to deal with rental car if your MINI has to go in for extended service (overnight)? My local MINI dealer will not provide a loaner for a standard Cooper, only the S model.

Also, try to find out the build date. Late '02 were of better quality, as they were working out some of the early problems. I got one of the last '02 (AUG) and have been very pleased with my MINI.

Green Cooper Brand New 2004 MINI Cooper for sale. $20,000 or better

I have a brand new 2004 with only 27 miles on it for sale. It's still at the dealership waiting for my buyer to be the first to drive it out of the showroom. Why not talk to me about buying a new 2004 over a 2002? Email me with a message at Doug@Tacoma.com and I will give you the details. Doug Miller, Tacoma, Washington.

You might also check out the MINIs at www.autotrader.com They currently have about 500 '02 to '04 MINIs listed on their site.
