Offline | Concern of JCW conversion for Cooper S - design changes? HI, I have on order at the moment a cooper s which will have the JCW conversion and will be collected by me on March 1st 2004 (yahoooooo!). But, I was in the dealer which will supply it to me yesterday signing some more paper work and was advised that there is an availability problem with the JCW kit for my car. I have not confirmed this yet with John Cooper but it appears that there has been a design change to the new cooper s cars leaving the factory. This design change is around the exhaust system and the way that it couples to the engine, some flange or mounting method has been changed. This means that JCW cannot at the moment supply any kits until they have made modifications to or redesigned the required parts. This means there may be a delay. Has anyone else been told this or know anything about this problem? I will be very dissapointed if my car is not fitted with it when I pick it up from the dealer, it is only about six / seven weeks away now! Is anybody else waiting delivery of a new cooper s soon with JCW kit fitted, and know or been told about this problem? Any info would be helpful. Many thanks Ed. ![]() |

Offline | They are keeping very quiet. Hi, I'm also waiting for an "s" with the JCW kit in Norway end March/beginning April :-). I have no information about any delay (so far) and I know they have e-mailed JC to check delivery. Perhaps they are just keeping quiet about it! What colour are you going for? DGC |

Offline | Specification Hi, thanks for your reply from Norway. Where abouts are you in Norway? I go there on business several times a year, around Oslo, Skien, Kristiensand, Bergen, Moulde and Trondjheim. The colour had to be electric blue, I love the colour. To top it off nicely I went for a silver viper stripe, chrome mirror caps, aero sideskirts and chillie pack. I also asked to have the runflat 17" tyres changed as I did not want runflats as the demo car had very high vibration through the steering, they agreed to do this but I have to supply a replacement set of tyres. They will provide a free compressor and puncture repair spray though, and not charge for changing them. I have some other options too. But I went for DSC mostly because of the JCW conversion. I will be phoning to JCW on Monday to find out if there is any truth in the delay and exactly what the problem is, if any. I will post what I find out here as soon as I know it. Six weeks to go, six weeks to go .......................... Ed |

Offline | Hi Portised, I ordered my new car on Saturday and I was told exactly the same thing by the dealer, the exhaust was being changed and therefore the Works Kit might be delayed but he didn't know by how much. Any info you can find out will be most helpful. ![]() |

Offline | Information update on cooper S JCW conversion I have just got off of the phone to John Cooper and been told the following information: From 1st January 2004 the Cooper S has had some modifications. These I was advised are that the new mini cabriolet will use the cooper s floor pan, and as such it has been modified to suit both cars. The modification is not around the way the exhaust attaches to the engine which is what the dealer told me. There has been an additional or modified strut brace or mounting fitted at the back which now interferes with the exhaust pipe route. The rear of the exhaust pipe has had to be redesigned to avoid this. At this present time 20th January John Cooper expect the changes to have been approved and parts available for shipping by 3rd February. So My cooper s delivery with JCW conversion for collection on March 1st 2004 should be unaffected by the delay. Hope this information helps calm your nerves a little! But watch this space for further updates, I will be phoning John Cooper every week up until I get confirmation of the parts having been shipped. ![]() |
