| MINI2 Master | Really sorry to hear this has happened mate!! ![]() Just wondering, have many people had the bmw tracker fitted to their cars? It was an optional extra when I purchased mine and even though I take every precaution to make sure my car is safe, I know that if the worst were to happen, I could have the police track it. I'll keep my eye out for the car anyway ![]() Lotus Elise SC - Collecting 1st April |

Offline | Sorry to here the news - although your probably fed up of hearing that by now, one thing i always makesure is that my keys are not kept anywhere where someone can take them i.e on a key rack just inside the door (bad idea anyway) or on the coffee table downstairs. Where I used to live a pretty good area in Sheffield, i lived on a cul de sac, a black vectra came up the road and one guy threw a breeze block through the nieghbours front door and took the keys out of the back of the door ( which had the car keys on) hey presto one newish 3 series coupe, within a week a T5 volvo was also taken off the same street in the same way, a common way of nicking cars now. Imprezas and Evos alsorts went before they were caught, you never know who is watching you and where you might keep your keys. Also my gf was rammed from behind (in her car !)a couple of years ago in her MX5 ( well a light tap) she was just about to get out and look at the damage when she saw 2 masked guys in the mirror (car jackers) so she locked the door floored the car yanked the handbreak on so the car was pointing in the opposite direction and sped away from them (they didnt chase) I dont condone driving like this on the public highway but I think anyone would have reacted like that in that kind of situation. |

Offline | Sorry to hear about yours and your dads theft Hope you get a positive result soon. I know this is not going to help you, but as modren cars are becoming more difficult to steal without the correct chipped key, thieves(or better still the scum of the earth) are having to resort to this type of tatic to enable them to take away your prized possesion. With this in mind I would urge all MINI2er`s and anyboby else to seriously consider buying (as I have just done because of the increase in this type of theft) a small combination safe. Into which you can put things like your car keys etc. I know it will not stop the determined villian but it would stop the smash and grab opportunists. Plus if you could show your insurance company you have taken all reasonable steps to secure your property it must surely help. Just my 2PW |

Offline | I thought it was a bit harsh, some mod locked the thread so I could not continue with the discussion I think I added the link in the S section. Which ever mod did lock the thread should have there role re-considered, if it was there mini you can bet there would be a sticky on almost every forum. ![]() |

Offline | i dont think its your place to pass judgement on a mods ability to run a forum. Besides, he would have been moderated him/herself had they spammed about a stolen mini. Of course its a horrid situation, but the fact of the matter is, its still spamming, innit. Plus, the locked threads are still visable, so its not like they have been removed from sight. jord, have you posted on as many cruise sites as possible? some times these cars find there way into private sells through boards like those so its worth a try. this will also bring in a whole new type of car enthusiast who will no doubt spot a car as distinguishable as yours should they see it. Any news from the authorities? |

Offline | It was me, I locked them because I didn't think removing them would be fair, I sent a redirect link to this discussion from all the other posts you made. Whatever the situation, cross posting of the same message isn't good. I took the call that general discussion gets more traffic than the 'S' forum, besides if they break it up they could sell bits to an owner of any model MINI. And no, if my car was stolen I wouldn't post on all the forums either, I'd do what I did for you, post a lot of links to one main discussion. Offline | Nasty. Do they know if it was used for robbery etc, or just taken for a ride? Must be quite painful to see in a strange kind of way. ![]() Our trials and tribulations living in a "bleeding edge" eco house... Oxley Woods Living |

Offline | I think one of the biggest deterrents to theft is for some of us (me included) to clear out our garages and put our cars inside. Offline | A bit off topic but insurance minded, when i took out my insurance i was asked where my car was parked at night at home, on street, in drive or in a a garage, i said garage as it is When my documents arrived i read them, that was a first and i discovered that cause i said i garage my car at night i must have it safely tucked away between the hours of 10pm and 6am or it's not covered So, to those who say this when renewing insurance, check your details ![]() ![]() |

Offline | Alan, It's interesting that it has been specifically noted in the Policy Document now. The last ABI guidelines that I was aware of was that if you declared your car as parked in the garage overnight and forget to park it in there one night, then your claim should not be refused if an incident occurred. It's a different matter if the assessor discovers that your garage is actually a junk store or a gym. As a sidenote, my friend's sister gave me a call for advice last Tuesday as their car had been vandalised. All glass smashed, 4 punctured tyres and scratches and dents on every panel except for the roof. The problem was that they had declared the car as being garaged to get a cheaper premium when they lived in a terraced street with no off road parking. Anyway the car was towed to the authorised repairer last week and as I probably thought their claim has since been refused after the assessor visited their home address. Bye Bye £4,500. There is just one moon and one golden sun; And a smile mean friendship to ev'ryone; Through the mountains divide, and the oceans are wide; It's a small world after all. |
