Hi,

I picked up my Cooper on friday and love it! But I'm a bit concerned that it hasn't got an alarm on it. I've no idea why Mini don't install the alarm as standard on the Cooper as well as the Cooper S.

Anyway, I've had a good search through the forum and found plenty of posts about retrofitting the alarm (in particular from people in the USA) on newer models (03 and later) but my Cooper is a 2002 '52 so I don't think the wiring is in place for it.

Has anyone in the UK had the alarm retrofitted to a 2002 Cooper and what was the cost? Is it worth shopping around.

I fit a sigma system which works off the Mini remote key - £211.50 inc vat

Just got a price of £559.78 + VAT from one local Mini Dealer.

Broken down as £191.41+VAT for the alarm and 3 hours @ £95 + VAT per hour.

Alarm price doesn't seem to bad, but labour rate is just plain stupid!

Whats the lowest labour rate anyone has found from a South East dealer?

i would get a cliffor alarm for that price, be much better too.

I have phoned around to loads of other dealers and they all quote me £700 - £750.

I went to an autoelectrician who said he could definately install it and thought that he could probably recode it as well for £300 - so this would come to £525. But, I don't know if I can trust him to do as good a job as BMW.

Has anyone in the UK had it retrofitted by BMW or someone else for less than £700?
