Offline | I design games for a top game producer that makes games for all of the systems we spoke of. But my current project is for a game on a system that we haven't touched on which outsold the rest over the holidays and continues to go strong: Game Boy Advance. affordable, backwards compatable with all other game boy titles, and a whole slew of quality games on the shelves. Granted, can't compete with the hardware of the other systems, but I argue that the gameplay is much better on most GBA games than most "flashy" games on high-end systems. Taken Gaming Back to its Roots! Any thoughts? |

| Moderator & Sponsor | Thought: Needs a better screen!.. Otherwise it's a fab system - any platform that will bring me another Mario Kart game gets my vote.. Games in the UK cost almost double the price in the States though..maybe you can set up a side line business selling export games to the UK?.. (I'm serious!)A friend of mine was a PS games producer for Sony (he worked on the Wipeout series) and he was none too keen on the PS or X-Box from a Development perspective, but loved the Nintendo gear. He always reckoned he was 'stuck' in grown-up mode though when it came to games development after so many years working on adult oriented games, so he didn't think he'd be able to cut it making games without ridiculous amounts of blood and guts.. ![]() |

Offline | dodger, a company called portable monopoly has just finished an internal lite kit for the game boy advance. I think its about $35 and easy to install. Looks like a back lit screen! beautiful. I had the same complaint. Now I have a new one. . . because of the dimmed screen, I as a designer have been over saturating my colors to make up for the lack of luminousity on the GBA screen. Now if they turn around and make a back lit version, some games may appear super saturated. |

| MINI2 Crash Test Driver | 128bit isn't better than 32bit. The 'bit' approach was just a method used by marketers to sell their newer products. In the future, 64bit will become a little more widely used although for the next 5 years at least, using 32 bit is more than enough. Yeah you could get a PC, but not all the games that run on the XBox will be released on the PC, although they would probably work. I reckon it won't be very long until an emulator comes along because of the strong similarity between the systems. Spanky2k Officially the worst MINI driver in the Universe!!! |

Offline | Any suggestions on how to get past Solidus! He'a a pain in the ase. I seem to get his energy right down and then he does these moves I can't block so get killed! Its got that bad that that Geak Ocelot (or is that the guy liquid is now? Always get there names confused) gave me advice but it didn't work! when he glows blue you can hurt him just run near to him and when he turns blue to attack you with his sword flip/roll past him and stab him in the back it takes time but just rember to keep flipping away from him before he attacks |

Offline | I played thru Metal Gear...but can't remember how I beat Solidus. I just remember it was key to get behind him, go for one hit and keep moving. Takes time but is not difficult. |

Offline | Am I sad or what!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I popped into my local comets store today,to see if they had a demo console I could try out. One hour later I was still there playing the xbox with a game called "halo",so what do I think of it IMO its fantastic far better than than PS2 and the proposed game cube. If I was in the market for a games console I would buy the xbox with "halo" These are my reasons 1...Better graphics 2...dvd playback is far better than the ps2 3...12 month warranty {nintendo gives 3 months,PS2 6 months} |

Offline | Well, there was a big difference between NES, SEGA Master System (8 bit) and Super Nintendo, Megadrive (16 bit). Also PS1, Saturn, N64 and so on... Bit's ISN'T a method for marketers. 16 bit = 16 lanes, 32= 32 lanes, etc. The more lanes, the more traffic that can be accommodated. Meaning a quicker system... | Charity Hero | I think the X-BOX is a great idea, it's basicly a pc platform, so like basil said it can be esily ported. and anyhow we all know that micro soft are there just to clean up another market and eventually get more people into PC's and using windows! with regards to power, why do you NEED 128 bit computing when the processing power and graphic capability is limited! X-BOX is a little powerhouse as all its resources are for gaming only! i can't wait for it to go down in price.... do dod do do do, im lovin it |

Offline | Geez, Dinger, Halo was the first XBox game I bought and already traded it in! I just couldn't get into it. Also traded in Nascar Thunder and Project Gotham. Both too boring. It was fun driving the Cooper S in Project Gotham for a while though. I guess I'm more of a Grand Theft Auto kind of guy! I will be renting Blood Wake for a go this weekend. If this thread is still up I'll post on it. I have PS2, Sega Saturn and XBox and PS2 ranks #1. XBox needs games, too limited yet. Are we supposed to be talking about MINI's here? ![]() |

Offline | Dinger, You guys definately got the better deal! I will readily admit that I didn't get past the first level in Halo when I gave up. I didn't like the view...too much like Turok, which I ended up liking by the way. I guess I got too invested in Grand Theft Auto 3 on the PS2 and gave up on the other games. The controllers on the Xbox really bother me. If they were like the PS it would be a much better experience. I made the mistake of buying Wreckless: The Yakuza Missions. The car is the weapon, not too exciting. I think the trick is to always rent the movie at the video store before buying it. Interestingly enough, when I bought the Xbox last December I was forced to buy "dealer add-ons"! Had to buy 3 games, one of which had to be a Microsoft game, and had to buy one peripheral (controller, remote, etc.) Sounds like some heartless MINI dealers here in the states! ![]() |

Offline | Dinger, Yes, I rented it Friday night and have put a few hours into it. My left hand got wicked cramps from toggling so much! Not a bad game, but not great. The missions are challenging but not overly so. The battle mode is good for honing your blasting and gunning skills. I like that there are no time limits. Definately rent it before purchasing. I don't think I'll buy it. What was much more fun today that I got my hands on was the silver/black Cooper S Nice ride. Gotta get one.Missing my buddies Dan and Ed but glad I have two angel buddies , And on a quest to Right Secco's Wrongs |

Offline | First to the above quote, that really is clutching at straws on what evidence is it 'far better'? Most will forget that fact that the X Box isn't even DVD movie compatible from out of the box and that SONY is one of the leading manufacturer's of DVD players Im sorry if Ive missed the point!!! I will agree Halo is very smart but yet another FPS not a bad thing but not ground breaking, as most, if not all of us are using our own PC's to access the site the idea of an X Box being easy to port to from a PC seems a lost argument. I would be tempted to get an X Box if I actually saw a games that appealed to me past the initial playing of Halo it has very little to offer now or the next 12 months I hope the X Box prooves me wrong because even Sony need a kick up the ass to keep standards high and competition is very important, but the only thing I think will even offer competition is the Gamecube.
