Most of you that know me, know that I drive a car that has been adapted for me to drive with hand controls, so when the MINI came out I went to see my local friendly dealer
who was very understanding, and told me there could be a way of adapting a MINI to drive with hand controls,

So with a bit of enthusiasm I sent away an email to a local adaptions company Jeff Gosling Hand Controls and they informed me that they had just converted a MINI Cooper,

So with my information pack the salesman sent me a few photos of a converted MINI



So I might just go down an place an order for a MINI now...

Ooops, monsta will be upset now. Glad you can have your MINI converted, let us know what colour you choose. So we can all bag it...... I mean we can all compliment you on your choice of colour....

It's probably a personal matter, but if you wish to, it may be of some use to other Drivers here that need to use hand controls on the cost of the conversion.

Then again, I guess a pm to you would suffice on that point.

Anyway, keep us posted, and enjoy your MINI once you get it on the road.......

by the way, looking at those photos. Does the hand control apply the brake and back off the throttle when pushed forward ?

The Adaption shown in the picture costs around £350 ($900 AUD)but with the Infra Red controller it goes up to around £1000 ($3000 AUD)

The adaption works on a push pull basis
when you pull the rods for the accelerator is pushed
when you push the lever the brake is pressed - slowing the car down

For any handicapped drivers in the U.S., here is the official response I received to my question as to whether or not hand controls could be installed. Not only did I get a positive answer, but there is also a $500 rebate available! Don't know how this would apply in other countries.

Hi Dale, thanks for writing in!

Yes, the MINI can be equipped with hand controls for handicapped drivers. Some MINI dealers install the controls, but usually the vehicles are sent to a "specialist" installer in handicap controls. You can ask your dealer for more information on the specifics. Once the appropriate controls are obtained and installed on the vehicle, MINI Division will reimburse them up to $500.00. We need to obtain from the customer proof that the vehicle is a handicap vehicle (a copy of a permit or some states require the license to show its a handicap driver, and proof that the modifications were performed as well as a copy of the lease or purchase documents).
