Offline | dutch prices I am an englishman living in the netherlands and am about to order a new cooper s in dark silver with white top. I have been checking prices and it seems that here in the Netherlands I have to pay in the region of 7500 euro more for the basic price. This is if you compare the prices in Germany, the UK or Belgium. Does anyone know a way around the problem, because if i import privately I still have to pay this 'luxury' car tax. the basic price for a cooper s here is currently 27,200 euro I think that is around 19,500 pounds (UK). ![]() |

Offline | Yeah, new car taxes are high in holland, that's why it was cheap for us in the UK to import from holland and not pay the dutch tax rate. Then pay the vat here. Only thing i can think of is buying a car and registering it in a different country and just using it in holland. If you are planning on coming back to the UK eventually you could order a UK car and use it in holland until you come back here. I think germany has quite competitive new mini prices, this could be another option ![]() |

Offline | Thanks Rob, but whenever I bring the car into the Netherlands I am going to have to pay these taxes. Indeed maybe it is possible to drive around in a German or Belgian car, but not for more than a year i think and then come the taxes. I will keep trying. I am in the UK tomorrow and will see what I can find out then. Am not ever coming back to UK. ![]() |

Offline | Worth a try I didn't know about having to pay the taxes after a year, sounds right though Can't think of anything else really. I suppose you'll have to get saving It's worth the wait though, really nice car ![]() |
