Offline | Servicing It's more a general question... Basically a light has come up on my g/f's car indicating that her car is due for a service. It is 12 months since her last service but in that time she has only covered 5,000 miles. Her warranty has only recently expired so if she was to get it serviced it'd only be to keep her service history. I think it's too early for a service and the next buyer would be more than happy if we waited until the 10,000 mile interval instead. Do you agree? The dealership has said though that they can't extinguish the light until the cars had its service. Yeah right.. ![]() Thanks in advance. ![]() Global Moderator ![]() |

| Awwww %%%% it! | I had the same thing with my wife's Escort. She did very low mileage ( 6000 odd miles in 3 years) so I did not service it every 12 months - when it came to selling it sold like a hot cake, no issue whatsoever with the servicing as the mileage was so low. Low mileage, good condition, lady driver and a service history even if not every 12 months makes for a very marketable motor As for the light - Escort didn't have one ![]() |

Offline | I think most service schedules state 12 months or 10,000 miles, whichever comes sooner. Oil should be changed annually because it deteriorates. If the warranty has expired why not just take it to a local garage for an oil and filter change - check that they can extinguish the light first with the correct equipment. There is just one moon and one golden sun; And a smile mean friendship to ev'ryone; Through the mountains divide, and the oceans are wide; It's a small world after all. |

Offline | Thanks Bob you've put my mind at rest. I think I'll wait.DC I'll have a word with them RE Oil change. I'd rather the dealership does it, I think it's worth paying a bit more for when time comes to sell. You can then show VW receipts.Global Moderator ![]() |

Offline | Service Light Hi, There's a post on FAQ's about resetting the service indicator using the odometer trip button. I don't know if that'll get rid of the light, but it's worth a try. Tabor ![]() |
