Offline | Go the OZ option......you get the speedo on the steering wheel and a rice boy tacho in the dash. ![]() No but seriously, If I could have any option I think the speedo on the steering wheel (can't believe I am saying that) with a redesigned centre dial with tacho, fuel, temp, oil pressure, and oil temp. |

Offline | I really like the style of the central speedo. It would be nice if the factory offered the option of having the other gauges on the steering column. Saw it at the New York Auto Show and thought it was awful. I was relieved when I found out it was an optional choice. Motor on, Dudes and Dudettes!!! Offline | ...looks like people are still ordering the sat nav in fear of otherwise speeding because they won't look at the center speedo. this is very sad - 1) you learn to look centerwards in 2 days, then it's second nature. humans are very adaptive beings. 2) you learn to tell speed from revs. 3) if all else fails, now you get digital speed readout in the tach (don't have this on my '02). 4) a cheaper way to avoid speeding is getting the MFSW (which you should spec anyway, everyone should have MFSW!) thereby getting cruise control. so, i guess, horrid as it is, chrono seems to be a good option for those confused souls who would otherwise get the sat nav for this reason. the sat nav is even more horrid, aesthetically speaking, and much more expensive. to those who haven't seen the chrono pack in real life but spec'ed it anyway - you may be in for an awful surprise... those are my far more than 2 cents. rant off ![]() hey what's this i've missed about anthracite roof lining? i'll have to run a search... cooper s '05 x brg/white/chrome, cordoba/anthracite/chrome, flik wasp 17x7 x delivered july 26th 2005 cooper '02 replaced x brg/white, R83 white, chrome, cordoba x built june 21st, arrived july 15th on the traviata, delivered july 26th 2002 |

Offline | Hi to all, I've seen this asked before but not answered, so does anyone know if you can retrofti the chono kit on a Cooper S? (I'm thinking of getting a used S, but I really don't like the center speedo). Thanks, Memnon. |

Offline | I am sure that a retrofit is "possible" but pretty expensive. You would need to get the Chrono Pak unit, and the different tach and speedo "mouse ears" that go over the steering wheel. Like most retrofit deals, if you could say find a wrecked car with a Nav system, you could pull the mouse ears and use them. Then you would only need to buy and rewire the chrono pak unit. Probably an enormous job, with negligible rewards, since Mini would probably blame you for any electrical problem in the car forever. |

Offline | RE: Chrono or not to Chrono ... This threads been pretty dormant since June but if people are still interested ... I recently drove a Cooper Convertible with the Chrono Package. I had thought originally that I really wanted that Speedo moved to the center. But when I drove with it I found that you couldn't see either the Speedo or the RPM gauge very well through the steering wheel. Unlike other cars, the gauges are mounted very close to the steering wheel (instead of deep within a dash housing) and the wheel is smaller than most. In the end, once you get past 35 MPH you can't see the numbers at all unless you hunch down and squint up - not a recommended activity while driving. And when you get the Chrono package, the On Board Computer (OBC) changes so that the speed no longer gets displayed in a digital fashion on the OBC display! A big drawback. So, I quickly changed my order to NOT include the Chrono package. The Speedo stays in the middle where it can be seen at a glance (without hunching down; safer) and the OBC displays the digital speed right in front of me, too. The best of both worlds. And I saved $250 and upgraded to leather instead. JR |

| MINI2 Regular | Would it not be possible to have the digital display programed to show the MPH regardless of the chrono-pack? In order for the other outputs on the comp to work, it must already know the speed data. The info should be in there somewhere and therefore displayable. I have my Mini on order (Nov. build) and included the Chrono Pack. I know it does not look as good as it should but I prefere guages to "idiot lights" Dennis |

Offline | Possible does not mean easy to do. Because its software controlled, and MINI doesn't allow it as an option, its probably a giant pain to get the digital readout back with the Chrono pack. Similar logic exists for the auto-up windows, since they can go auto down, but the only solution I know of involves a custom hardware solution, to trick the system. If software is involved, the simple solution seems never to be simple. Magic 8-ball was correct. All be in awe of Magic 8 ball. |

Offline | So let me ask a dumb question then for those of you with a central speedo (not a MINI owner yet): Don't you just look at the digital readout rather than glance at the speedometer? In other words it seems like the central speedo ends up being pretty much for the passengers, not that there's anything wrong with that. These threads are great; I was going back and forth but am convinced I don't need/want the Nav or Chrono package. I've been on the wait list for a couple months and am trying to firm up options. Thanks |
