Offline | MCS vs. Audi TT This may be a dumb question to some, especially since this is a mini forum, but if you could buy a used TT w/ 20-30K on the ticker or a brand new MCS for the same price, and you got all the options you wanted in both cars, which would you opt for and why? Warranty doesn't count...let's say the TT is certified to 100k to make that an even playing field.... |

Offline | Depends on what's more important -- speed off the line, or handling ability. Check out Road & Track (Road Test Summary, in every issue) -- the MCS beat almost every car R&T has tested in the slalom (combo speed and handling), including the TT, the Dodge Viper, and many others. 2 cars in the $400K+ range beat it, and the BoxsterS beat it (but not the 911). That says a lot! Plus, as many posts here indicate, you can easily mod the MCS to boost the HP's to match (or get close to)the TT. And lastly -- how important is a back seat to you? ![]() Look at that little S car go! [Sold 2/06] |

Offline | Standard MCS does 0-60 in just over 7 seconds. Will you notice a difference between that and the TT, probably not. But you will notice that into the bends an MCS will sh*t all over a TT MCS wins my vote, well I would say that wouldn't I!! ![]() |

Offline | Yes, there is no handling arguement to be had. I guess I was just looking a bang for the buck...the used TT seems like a good deal, maybe I am wrong, and you can mod that 1.8T motor as easily (if not easier) than the MCS powerplant. Speaking of that, what kind of mods do the MCS guys do right off the bat to get closer to JCW power? $5000 is a lot to get to 200HP...the 1.8T guys seem to be able to "chip" their engines with good results. Back seat...the mini has a better back seat than the TT hands down, but I wouldn't use it much in either vehicle. Most likely the seat woudl be down so I can store my bike racing crap. |

| MINI2 Regular | IMO, the TT is due to be replaced with a "new" TT. Just watch the value plummet along with the desirablity of your TT. I had an A3T before my MCS & although the build quality on my Audi was first class, I prefer my MINI for character and that handling...... The TT has had it's day now and is a bit passe.... Just my opinion.. Nige. EB/W Cooper S, leather, 16" x-lites, climate, sunroof, heated seats, MFSW, Alpine CD. Whalen Shifter, Bonnet stripes, tints all round. Normally to be found in the outside lane of the M20. |

| Maxin' and Relaxin' | i found myself in exactly the same position last month when i was ordering my mcs and found a 2002 TT, new model with the 18" wheels etc, 22k miles for only £17,500. it was only the 180bhp model though so that was waht made my mind up. still thinkin of buyin it to have til i get my mini then trading it in without losing any money (hopefully). reason its so cheap is cos i work for a finance company and when the lease is up, or in this case the customer cant afford to pay for it staff are offered the cars at a cheap price. rarely any minis though. |

Offline | Hey Fizzle: So I assume you have driven a TT and an MCS? Thoughts? Impressions? The cool thing about the MCS is the strong following it has created in the past 2 years and the aftermarket has finally caught up with the demand of the tuners (that could be debated). I have driven, modified and 4-wheeled Jeeps for the past 8 years...same story there...I am just ready to play on pavement. The TT has sweet lines and I love it, but the more individual car forums I go to, the more other tuners knock it...I don't find the MCS getting knocked by anyone. |

| Maxin' and Relaxin' | i havnt actually driven a 180bhp TT and the one i'm interested in is down in birmingham and i'm in newcastle, in a way i dont want to drive it as i've made my mind up on the mcs (long term). driven the 225bhp TT and thats fast as ![]() ![]() ![]() but hopefully i'm gonna get the BBR 220 conversion done on the mcs so it'll probably be even faster. at the end of the day i'm only 20 and i'd feel like a bit of a poser in the TT where as everyone loves minis so i wouldnt worry about it. |

Offline | Feel like a poseur in a TT? I actually have to agree...but I guess that also adds to my logic...many younger people could and can not afford a new TT...and many that could are people like my dad that buy them and drive them on the weekends. Now there are several 2000s and 2001s with 30k miles on the ticker and driven by people that liked the way they looked. I would only get a 225TTQ, not a 180TT. |

Offline | Lets see one car makes me smile everytime I see one and the other I've never liked from new and it's saddled with Audi's generic wooden steering. Not too difficult a choice .p.s. I was once an Audi fan owning a GT-5S, GT Fi and 90quattro in succession for a very long time. |

Offline | Audi A3 1.8T, VW Golf GTi, Seat Leon 1.8T, Skoda Octiva (is that the one?) 1.8T Driven 3 of them ..... nothing to say about them aside from - wooden steering, over sensitive brakes, soggy suspension/dampers. And by buying a TT, everytime you go past that Skoda or Golf...... |

Offline | A mate of mine has a 225 bhp TT which was bought at Cooper S money (£14995), however it is a 99v, LHD, 48000 miles. Very nice car, in silver with 18" Audi multispokes, heated leather seats, Bose sound plus the usual Audi refinements. Suppose it depends whether you are in the market for a new car, and its quite a different thing to the mini. In my opinion both are nice cars, but very different. ![]() |
