Goodbye MINI hello Jaguar.

After much soul searching I have decided to sell my MINI and have purchased a brand new Jaguar X-Type AWD for 1st March delivery.

For sure the Jag won't be anywhere near as much fun as the MINI, but it will be more comfortable and relaxed on the motorway – and people will be able to get into the back!

The MINI is truly great car and I will defend it to the hilt in any conversation – but you have to move on!

Good luck to all you MINI owners.

Sorry to here that, but the X-Type is an excellent car. I remember doing the original launch in France.

Test drove an X-type a month or so ago, not my cup of tea but my opinion don't count. Hell of a change from a MINI to a Jag though!

Ps. 3 series is nicer but Jag is (almost) british

Just make sure you get a big discount - they depreciate badly and there are fields of unsold ones outside Speke in Merseyside. Haggle hard! Failing that the Mondeo chassis is a good one with regards handling.

I've driven my folks' X-type quite a bit. Really nice car in many ways, but I always feel like I'm kinda floating outta touch with the road. I'll take my MINI. Anyway, enjoy!

Kind of funny, many of us might have more in common than just the MINI! My mom has a BRG X-Type 2.5 AWD, and I just got my BRG MCS.

While the MINI is more suited to my taste in driver experience, the X-type is a nice, classy tourer. The interior is very tasteful and well finished, and it's a very nice looking car on the outside as well, obviously distinctive as a Jag. And even my mom's "base" X-Type is very well appointed. While the car is obviously more of a tourer and tuned for comfort than my MCS, it still delivers a pretty solid feel and very well balanced and predictable handling as well, so it's a fairly enjoyable car to drive.

As for the resale value thing, yeah that matters to most everyone to a point. But IMO what is more important is that you have a car that you love and truly enjoy day to day, and a car that you love to sit in and look at. That's why I bought my MCS, and why my mom bought her X-Type, and I'm sure why many (most) of us bought our MINIs.

You could have waited and bought the new estate when it comes out. Hpoefully there will be more leg room in the back. But it depends, how often are there more than 2 of you in the car? You don`t have to move on.

But I have to say you have made a good choice of replacement, the Jag is a great car. I had one for a weekend last year, not a AWD and it was superb. Just a little TOO comfortable for us. As I`ve been driving Mini`s since 1985, I like to be thrown around abit.

In the US the Jaguar X-Type has been a flop. Dealers are discounting them heavely and offering insane lease offers on them as well. The car depreciates badly, it has a terrible quality reputation (My neighboor had one and the car spent at least a week or two at the dealership for repairs every month).

It is a nice car to look at, but it seems to me an old persons car. What really bothers me about the X-type is that it has diluted the "prestige" image of Jaguars because this car is essentially a Ford Mondeo sedan with a Jaguar bodyshell. the Ford quality and reliability shines through!.

I would personally have gone the way of a BMW 330i sedan, but that's me.

Nerver met ya but best wishes for continued Happy Motoring. I'm over here in the "States" but just looking thru your gallery you had a very nice ride. Some of your dissatisfaction could have derived from the palcement of the steering wheel. It seems to be on the wrong side

I'll look for pics of your new ride. A Jag with a checkered top should be easy to spot. Cheers.

IMO it's not totally in the spirit of things to point out the negative aspects, or what we feel are negative aspects to someone's decision on a purchase, even if it's not a MINI. What if rainbowdreamer has had personal experience with this car or knows someone who has, and this helped him make the decision. Or what if he just really likes it. It doesn't really matter, as long as that's what makes him happy right?

I know I have had experience, and from what I've seen, the X-Type is a very nice car and is very much "Jaguar" inside, in terms of appointments, styling, and feel -- whether it's based on a Ford or not. I wouldn't buy one for myself because there are different things I look for in a car -- hence the MINI -- but it is a good choice of car.

So my 2 cents is I hope that your new Jag brings as much enjoyment to you as the MINI does to most of us!

Thanks for your comments and I will miss the MINI. My Jaguar is Zircon (light metalic blue)with champagne leather with 17' wheels, electric seats, climate, etc, etc, and of course 4WD. Just waiting for the 04 registrations.

And yes, I got a huge discount off the list price.

Sorry if I caused offence, don' think I said anything bad (can't be bothered to read what i put already )

Hell you can fit more in a Jag than a MINI, and also I know which I'd rather drive to france in.....okay maybe not....I know which I'd rather be a passenger in driving to france.
