Dano04, MINI2.com is the best site for the new MINI. You can find many threads about spec'n a new MCS in here. The MINI Cooper S has 163 hp in stock form. It is NOT a compact economy car. It IS a small, un-aerodynamic, sports car with 163 willing horses under the bonnet. If you want to play with the horses you have to feed them. If you purchased this with the idea that you are going to get 50 mpg (5/100Km) you bought the wrong car! You will probably get between 24 & 30 mpg (8 - 10/100Km) depending how long you keep the throttle open. Motor on, Dudes and Dudettes!!! '06 MCS SB/S '02 MCS DS/W (retired)

When my car was new, I averaged 17 MPG on the first tank of gas. I never flogged it, as I was breaking it in, but it was probably due to the fact that it was brand spanking new, tight, etc. And possibly miscalculation if indeed it wasn't 100% full from the dealer, just indicated full. Then it jumped to 22 MPG, and I've been at between 22 & 25 MPG for my first 2000 miles. While I haven't been flogging my car, I have been driving it enthusiastically, and most of my driving was done in street / city driving so far, no long trips on the highway yet where I'm sure the average would go up significantly. But in all fairness, and taking into consideration that full throttle is used periodically, it's been about what I expected. The EPA rating on my window sticker for city says 25, so based on the fact that I haven't exactly driven it with fuel conservation in mind it, and most of my driving has been city, it hasn't been a let down. I don't mind my car drinking a bit more -- it's worth it to hear that supercharger! 2004 MCS: BRG/W -- Sport pkg, H/K, Sunroof, white bonnet stripes

People who keep careful long-term records (including myself) generally get around 20 mpg worst case (city, short trips, enthusiastic throttle, winter, etc.), and 30 mpg best case (steady 70 mph freeway driving). Normal mix of town, suburban, highway, you'll probably get 24-26. All US units BTW. - Mark
