Austin-Rover had many special editions of the Mini, Mini Sky, Rose, Picadilly, Park Lane etc, do you think BMW should do this? Imagine a White Cooper with a Pink roof :P
I hope not.
A special edition is in my opinion only a tool to increase awareness of a brand, squeeze some more profit out of a popular car by adding some simple factory mods at a higher price, or bump the sales of the car at the end of the product's life cycle. MINI needs neither. Mod your own MINI
Yes, the MC40 edition is the result of one of the reasons mentioned above.
I think the some of the Special editions worked on the classic mini, giving a nice result, like the Paul Smith mini, the Monte Carlo, the mini 30, then there were those that well should not have been made IMO like the Rose, Sky, and the Designer.
As for the new MINI, well there is the new MC40, which is not a good attempt, again IMO, then there was the Italian Job for the launch of the Film (this was more of an option pack to add to your car). Going forwards, I guess eventually MINI will do more of these, they are after all in the car industry to make a profit, and there is no reason not to do them, as long as they are done tastefully and to add value and desirabilty to the car.
The Paul Smith Mini, like the 1 attached, could evolve into a new mini, black 17 inch 8 spoke alloys and a purple body, i can just see it now, COME ON BMW!!!
Like the idea of Special Editions - but do we the mini owners really need special editions, as you can now personalise your mini with over £16K of BMW/Mini mods.
Oh there is a White '53 Mini Cooper with BMW sprayed pink roof driving around Norwich at the moment. (Lind at Norwich sprayed it pink!) Also has pink stripes!!
I think all those girls who bought barbies would love a that mini...
Or wait BRAINSTORMING......
A pink convertible mini with white stripes and a jeans top!!
Wicked stuff!
Lol, thatd look quite good. I can just see it now, Mini Convertible in pink parked (half on the pavement) outside Claires accesories, we should campaign to BMW :P

I had the Limited Edition Mottled Silver Tiger Striped MINI reserved for MINIs of Feb, March April 2003 build!!! - such valuable collectors items BMW insisted in buying them back for the same price we paid for them!!!
I think if they're done well like the Paul Smith MINI - a special edition for a reason and not just a pink roof and a couple of extra gadgets - then I'd buy one. I feel like we're losing out over all with MINI at the mo - MINI USA have the MCS40, MINI Japan are doing a 2nd anniversary edition - have the MINI sales been tso fantastic in this country compared to others that they feel they don't need to do a special here in the UK??
I'm with MiniCooper - come on BMW, lets have a Paul Smith MINI! How about the striped one he did inspired by his logo? That'd be fab!
