Offline | I've always wanted a starter button for the novelty effect and nearly fitted one to my very first car, a renault clio but I would still be able to start the car using the key as well as using the button so that when I am in a hurry and when others drive it they won't have problems- is this possible? Offline | Thats exactly what mine does - I only use the button 50% of the time. All you have to do is specify which you want when you get it fitted as there are instructions for either option. ![]() Red/white Cooper with Chilli, AC, ASC+T, Computer, Kenwood MP3, Alarm, 17" wheels, BLOODY BIG SMILE. Offline | No first hand knowledge with the dogs, only read about others experiences where the transmission would get fried, when their dog accidently pushed the floor mounted lever into reverse. Although, a couple of decades ago while in high school one of the students would regularly do this on purpose in front of the school. He'd slam on the brakes with his left foot, shift into reverse, and then slam on the gas. If you can imagine the highland games, where they hurl a telephone pole end over end, he nearly did that with his TransAM when the drive shaft snapped at the transmission, and planted itself in the asphalt. No serious bodily injuries, except perhaps until after he got home. Either cost cutting, an unforeseen driving pattern, but there were no loops to prevent the drive shaft from dropping. |

Offline | Ha ha ha. My first ever car, ummmm, ok I'll admit it, was a Fiat 126. That had a key and two levers between the seats. One for the choke the other for the starter motor. Terrible terrible car.... ![]() |

Offline | The sense of occasion engendered by a big red button (BRB) could only be improved if one were to enclose the BRB in a thick, spring-loaded, flip-up, rectangular perspex safety-cover Or is it just me ![]() Cooper S, Jet Black w/ white roof, silver 16" X-Lite wheels, DSC, MFSW, dark tinted windows ...It's here & I love it! |

Offline | Re: yeh... Best you also fit the optional Parachute Deployment Unit in the boot... I'm thinking this would be activated by pulling a D-shaped handle mounted maybe in the roof just in front of the driver's right shoulder... ![]() Cooper S, Jet Black w/ white roof, silver 16" X-Lite wheels, DSC, MFSW, dark tinted windows ...It's here & I love it! |

| MINI2 Master | I think MINI should swap the key for a little square transponder like the new 7-Series. That button is marked Start/Stop. You don't even have to hold the button until the engine catches, just press it, and the engine cranks until it starts. (This isn't as odd as it sounds, since a brand-new 7-Series really seems to start instantly.) Also the system can smart-start a badly tuned engine. No one has tried this yet, but it knows how to press the gas, or clear a flooded engine, or not to just crank, crank, crank and engine that won't start. It's apparently very high tech - but useless since no one who cares about the button will ever let they're engine get that whipped. Plus, if the engine is hurting bad enough to need the smart-start stuff, then it's probably old enough that most of the electric wizardry has quit anyways. Anyway, it's neat. And BMW already has it in their bag of tricks, so why not stick one on the MINI. Chilli Red/White Cooper S, Sport Pack & Sunroof. Delivered June 12th, 2002!Now with MCS Winter Tire Package. |

Offline | And BMW already has it in their bag of tricks, so why not stick one on the MINI. I have this feature on the ML, and I like it alot. Just a quick turn of the key, and the computer starts the engine. Gives me time to buckle up. I'll add this to my list of features I'd like to see on the MINI: 1) Home Link 2) Sunroof control dial, like what Audi has 3) Auto Start (for lack of a better name) Chip H. ex-MINI Cooper S owner and all around good-guy |

Offline | 1) Home Link Home Link is the standardized, integrated, garage door opener that's built into your car (well, not the MINI, anyway). You can also program it to operate gate controllers, unlock the front door, and even turn the lights on in your house (there's an X-10 module that interfaces the two). You can see more at: http://www.homelink.com/home/home.html for the US market, or http://www.homelink.com/euro/index.html for European users. It even understands the rolling-codes that the more modern door openers use. I like it because I find that the garage door remotes that clip onto your sun visors are ugly. If you visit with other family members often, that's two remotes -- twice as ugly. But the HomeLink system allows you to replace up to three remote controls, and it's integrated into the car, so it looks better. I would guess that the HomeLink system would also prevent the ugly remote control's RF signal getting blocked by the heated windshield option. 2) Sunroof control dial, like what Audi has This is a cool feature - the dial controls how open the sunroof is. If I recall correctly, 0° is closed, 270° is fully open, and between 270° and 360/0° is "pop-up". You turn the dial to, say, 180° for 2/3 open, and the sunroof moves to that position and stops. If you only want the sunroof open a crack, turn the knob to 45°. No more need to hold the button until the sunroof gets to the position you want. If you go to the Audi 360 interior view and look up near the rear-view mirror, you'll see the knob. Chip H. ex-MINI Cooper S owner and all around good-guy |
