whats that thing by the radiator coolant bottle?

i've looked for this on the site to no avail.its the thing to the right ,as you look at it,of the water coolant bottle at the very back of the engine.its not the oil top up.its not the brake fluid top up..it has a top on it thats unscrewable.its not in the manual.any help appreciated....lee

You shouldn't be topping up the power sterring reservoir....

THis is ALWAYS stated on the cap of the resevoirs - I don't know if it differs between MINI's but it does between cars and models of other makes - You shouldn't need to top it up as it's a 'closed' system however it is worth checking the level every so often

The type of fluid is different from the generic power
steering fluid of many other cars.
It's Pentosin Fluid CHF 11S hydraulic synthetic oil.
Some VW and Audi models use the same stuff (part # G 002 000)
and I'm pretty sure you can get it at BMW and MINI parts
departments also. About $20-$30 a liter.
