Just FYI, I am near the top of the "interest list" at my local dealership. I have not heard ONE WORD from them since I signed up the first day they were "official." My e-mails have been ignored. I never received any brochures. I never got any phone calls. I don't even know if their showroom is open and at this point, I don't care. They apparently don't want my business. There are too many reliability issues right now for me to consider one anyway. I'm not going to plunk down twenty grand until I am convinced the left pull is gone, the quality of the seats improves, the squeaks and rattles are gone and the electrical system is reliable, to name a few. The build quality has improved somewhat, but there are still far too many problems that have not been corrected. Maybe they will get their act together by this time next year, but they have already had eight months and the recent builds have many of the same problems as on launch day. It doesn't bode well, does it?

Alas! . . .

poor mr.bill . . I (they must have) knew (known) him well . . .

The Nissan dealer is across the street from the BMW/MINI dealer. They actually treat a customer as though they want to sell them a car. If MINI can't get its act together, then I may bite the bullet and get a 350Z. I already have an "original" '70-1/2 Z, so maybe I should get the latest one, but it would cost a lot more to buy, maintain and insure. In other words, a 350Z isn't cheap, but I am. I'm willing to hurry up and wait to give MINI some time to rectify all the problems. It's not wise to buy any new car model until it has been around for at least a year.

An S, an S, my collection of old socks for an S, although my old socks are prettier and don't stink as much as the styling of the S !

mr.bill, for once I agree with you. The Dealer I have dealt with, although pleasant enough, just doesn't share the same passion as myself. Maybe that's to be expected. It's just frustrating, and that frustration tends to block out any rational thought processes. I have *****ed and winged on this forum about many issues, not least of which, the wait....... the only other vehicle I would step into if my thought process finally goes off the deep end is an Audi TT. There's just nothing else available in Oz that stirs my soul enough. The styling of the new MINI, and it's dynamic abilities are in my mind, sensational. So I guess I'll wait.

As for the problems, it appears the majority have been or are in the process of being fixed, and all within 12 months of release.

Maybe it's time to wander into your BMW dealership again ?

cheers

Well don't do anything drastic, could be painful.

As for me, my attempts to evoke Shakespearean epic heroism not withstanding MINI Day was a bit disappointing. In fact one might even say that it "was full of sound and fury, Signifying nothing." A test drive, but no car and not even a clear idea of when I'll be able to get one. Oh well, hopefully at least this hasn't been "a tale Told by an idiot."

Did you find the test drive dissapointing Sejanus ?

By the way, how's your buddy Pontius Pilate ?

Actually, yes and no. Its a fun car and reaffirmed my choice of a MINI. I enjoyed taking it through some curves. Unfortunately though, the model I drove was apparently a preproduction model from Europe (KPH instead of MPH on the speedo, shelf, no glove box) and they warned me it was running rough.(It was the only CVT they had) When idling it reminded me of how my 36 year old Mustang acts on a cold morning. In addition it was raining just as the early Friday rush was starting so when we got on the freeway we hit traffic and I couldn't really do much with it.

A bit before my time as I recall. That kid Caligula is a real blast though.

No it isn't Basil. I stand corrected. I have this tendency to move ole Augustus a few decades forward in time even though I know better. That throws the whole imperial timeline out of sinc with other dates if you see what I mean. I've denied knowing Pilate once, I won't do it a second or even a third time. In fact let me recant by simply saying, "Alas poor Pilate! I knew him, Basil..."
Your knowledge of Roman history is admirable. You are clearly a man of many talents.
