MINI2

I'm on a business trip to Asia and have been watching for MINIs. So far, I and my colleagues have spotted some MCs in Penang, Malaysia (including a CR/W) and Hong Kong. They appear to be more common in Hong Kong than Penang (my Malaysian colleagues say that MCs cost about $35K in Malaysia due to heavy import taxes/fees protecting the local car industry). We haven't seen any MCSs here, by the way.

We're heading into the Peoples Republic of China for six days tomorrow; it'll be interesting if we see any MINIs there.

I just came back from Bangkok where they have a very nice Mini dealership. Minis I hear are pretty pricey over there but I did see a red/white whizzing by on a downtown street.

Me too, Got back yesterday from Bangkok and saw 2 rather nice girls double parking a BRG MC. Unfortunatly I was in a taxi at the time, would have gone and said hello otherwise!

Well, I was in the PRC for seven days and didn't see a single MINI, sad to say. There are a LOT of VWs (Polos, Jettas, Passats) since there are a few VW factories there. Not many American or Japanese cars are around there, either.

I'm back in Hong Kong now, and saw a Pepper White MINI within minutes of getting here. Tomorrow, I'm heading back to the USA.

Mini Coopers in the PRC are selling in excess of $40,000 for the plain-Jane model, so you can imagine why you don't see many around. We are relatively more lucky here in Hong Kong where the price is more `reasonable', but still expensive compared to what you are paying in the U.S.

I have a Pepper White MCS and I was wondering if mine was the one you saw.

We saw this one in Kowloon around 4:30 p.m. (we took the 2:00 ferry from Zhongshan).

Probably not me you saw. I am normally on the island side. We have regular organized `drives' so next time when you are in town, do check us out and may be you can join in the fun. We were out a week ago Saturday and there were 24 cars.

I just got back from a holiday in Hong Kong and saw loads of MINIs

We took a day trip to Macua and saw a few there as well. I posted a photo of one in the "Your favourite MINI photo................." thread (or click here )

Yes, I popped into the mini dealership in Bangkok (soi lang suan).

The girl there was pretty impressed that I'd been to Cowley to see minis being built.

They are dear in Thailand because of high taxes/duties on cars made outside the kingdom.
