How can I tell from my Vin number what month the car was built?...I have looked on the frequentley asked questions and have managed to deceiper most of it..it manufacturer, model type..but I can't figure out which bit tell me the month.....If it helps I don't collect unitl 1/3 and it will be new....any ideas...persumably it will have been built in jan/dec?

Mine says so on the left hand side of the engine bay (left as if you're looking at the front of the car)

Mine says "October 2001"

Thanks I will look out for that when I collect the car, but in the mean time just by using the vin number is there a way of telling does anyone know? cheers.

Try this site... it worked for my VIN... gave me the correct build month and date.

It didn't work for me - said mine is an S built in October 2000 with the steering on the right... it's really a regular Cooper built in 2003 with the steering on the left! Hmm... Going to check out what the engine says.

I think the VIN decoder may only have info on MINIs built through the end of August 2003.

There is also a FAQ on where to find the build date sticker on your MINI.

I think I'll wait till I pick it up on Monday...tried the link from FAQ earlier for the vin and it came up with 1/2003 build and left hand drive........definately not right lol

Just went out and looked at Verde - he apparently was a Christmas baby - born in December 2003... and we adopted him a month later.

Interestingly, the door jamb of my car identifies my car as a 03/03 (March 2003) build, but
MiniUSA told me that it was built on 2/28/03, and the VIN also identifies it as 2/03 and
the trip odometer data identifies the build week as late Feb 2003 as well (see Paul's FAQ).

Haha finish building last day of Feb... but sticker was appled on the next day I bet. hehe so when it got printed it was already march.

My guess is it will be built Feb 04. Mine came into the dealers mid August 03 and the build sticker says "Built August 03". They must roll off the line and be shipped rightaway - which is good really - no sitting around in fields up to their axles in water.

i reckon andy is right. i picked mine up 28/12/02 & its labelled as a Dec 02 build
